What would be easiest way to backup/restore Vivaldi profile?
-
Import bookmarks/settings from another browser works just fine, but what if you want to export your Vivaldi profile and import it from a Linux version or just plain back it up to restore later in case of accident?

I took my Windows profile to Linux. There were a few issues, but the important stuff like password, bookmarks, notes and history was working just fine. It's easy to find the Vivaldi data folder on Linux but on Windows it's a bit trickier since program data files and folders are often hidden unless you specifically set Windows Explorer to reveal them. On Linux you also need to set your file manager to see hidden files and folders, those with a period in front of the name. But if you find the data folder and copy it you can drop it in the Linux location ~/.config/vivaldi and it should work. Just make sure you copy it as a user and not as root. From Linux to Windows may be a bit trickier, but should also work. I have never tried. I mean who would want to move from Linux to Windows anyway?

I've saved the sheet with bookmarks and configuration in GDrive. not in the HD

So everything is done manually.
"Save/Import profile" would be a feature request.

So… there is an "Export Settings" entry on the Preferences / Keyboard page.
Is it a red herring? I bound a hotkey to it, then ran the hotkey - but it didn't do anything.
At least, I was expecting a dialog of some sort to appear, and that didn't happen. If it did something in the background - I'm not sure what. Hopefully it exports the settings someplace on the down-low?
I'm running Vivaldi 1.2.490.43 () (32-bit) on a freshly installed Windows 10 Home Edition laptop.

Export bookmarks is all i can find.
Where exactly did you find that a hotkey to export profile? -
What I mentioned is found under Preferences, on the Keyboard page, then under the Window header you'll see 'Export Settings':

Hotkey didn't do anything for me either.
Even if it did, i don't believe it is related to backing up extensions and bookmarks but more about your general settings, color preferences, hotkeys etc.

Ah, well you can already save the bookmarks separately, and the "general settings, color preferences, hotkeys etc" are all part of what I would consider to be a full 'profile' backup. SO I thought it interesting that here was the action tucked away under the Keyboard config, and it doesn't seem do anything just yet…

It's good that you found that!
We'll have to keep an eye on it.
Better yet, maybe Ayespy will tell us something about it.
Hint, hint! -
If I learn anything, I may mention it. However, I've never even seen a mention of that function.

Thank you!
It's odd that there be nothing on that mysterious hotkey.
Perhaps something on the roadmap slipped into an official version. -
