Cannot run Vivaldi from ubuntu dash [not a Vivaldi problem]
-
Hi, I installed Vivaldi 64bit on Ubuntu 14.04. Downloaded the deb file, which installed via the Software Center, and added an icon to the dash, as usual. Only i cannot run the browser via that dash icon. I can only run it by typing the 'vivaldi' command from the command line. somebody knows the cause? The solution? TIA Johan

what's your Vivaldi version?
can you check where the icon launcher is located?
on my Debian Jessie the path is:-
/usr/share/applications/vivaldi-stable.desktop
- /usr/share/applications/vivaldi-snapshot.desktop
I can only run it by typing the 'vivaldi' command from the command line.
edit:have you tried to issue the absolute path. ie /usr/bin/vivaldi-stable & ?

Vivaldi version: 1.2.490.43 () (64-bit)
I found a /usr/share/applications/vivaldi-stable.desktop file.
And "/usr/bin/vivaldi-stable &" works just fine. -
glad to know it's working.
can you mark the thread as solved? -
As the command you asked me to try works, and I can launch Vivaldi from both the cli and from the Ubuntu launcher, I'd like to mark this issue as "not a Vivaldi problem" instead. And I'll have to go to the Ubuntu forum for help, as this seems to be a Ubuntu Unity problem.
