Firefox WebClipper for Vivaldi
-
I'm sure those who extract web images are very familiar with this glaring issue with Vivaldi, especially those coming from firefox:
VIVALIDI'S WEB CLIPPER DOES NOT EXTRACT HTML ELEMENTS!
Let me explain.
In firefox, there is a button that allows you to clip content from any webpage:
When you click the button, there are two options, one is to save the current FULL page, and the other enables the user to save the visible screen.
HOWEVER, there are TWO MORE hidden options! If the user DRAGS the mouse over the screen, it will auto-initialize a rectangular selection box. If the user HOVERS over an HTML element, it enables the user to extract the element directly with auto-cropping!
Here is the image of the DRAG feature:
Here is an image of the HTML auto-crop notice how I can extract the button "7" from the DESMOS calculator:
If Vivaldi were able to integrate this feature, I can comfortably migrate entirely over to one browser. Vivaldi does NOT provide the user the ability to extract HTML elements with autocrop, which is a huge loss. If you haven't yet used this feature in firefox, then you must experiment with it, because it speeds up all communication workflows on Slack and Discord where webclips need to be taken. I have reviewed multiple extensions and they ALL require account setup and are not even CLOSE to the simplicity and effectiveness of the firefox webclipper. PLEASE, let me know how I can help to integrate this into vivaldi so I can finally have a single browser. I will literally learn javascript if it means I can contribute to getting this onto the browser.
By the way, I used the firefox webclipper to generate these screenshots. The Vivaldi one is actually a pain to use because the button is so small and at the bottom of the browser. All of that can be forgiven if we can integrate a proper webclipper. I have a ton of other ideas that you might find useful as well, but someone needs to sit down and teach me some javascript
Thank you VIvaldi team for making a great browser, I'm hoping it continues to develop!

Just curious, does anyone here have any experience in working with some sort of tool that would enable web clipping? Just want to know where I could go to learn how to get involved with developing some ideas. Thanks!

Hi, Thanks for your feature request.
This looks like a duplicate of https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/24955/capture-page-elements/10 Please vote & discuss at that thread, thank you.
You can use the forum search first to see if you can find similar requests. If that doesn't work, I've catalogued all the requests here.
