Tab/MemoryEfficiency
-
Its great that you give us the option to hibernate background tabs (and Stack tabs..which is awesome); on the same lines, within the background tab now in focus, can you give the user an option whether or not to reload ? Many a time a long forgotten tab that is not needed anymore would be clicked on, accidentally or on purpose, and the browser would start reloading the page just to be immediately closed On the same lines, (I am not browser-internals savvy) the static/non-media/displayed contents of a tab can be maintained like a snapshot displayed in the tab instead of the whole page being wiped out - sometimes we might just need it for reference, and of course you would display a pop-up that says 'You are looking at old/cached content, fool' with a reload/close button Also, based on time & no. of tabs parameter, and on the lines of better memory performance of course, many a time we open too many tabs and then spend time wearily wondering which ones we dont need anymore when the tabs become unreadable; maybe you can pop-up a window that lists these tabs alone and gives us the option to keep or kick them. Another thing - stack tabs can be made an automatic feature in the future for increased readability No biggie, these, but just might go a step further into your claim of being a smarter and friendlier browser

Regarding the background tabs - doesn't the "Tab Thumbnails" feature give you the information you need to decide on closing (or not)?
Then you could click on the Close button, no need to activate the tab. -
Right, thats the manual way which sometimes is useful, sometimes not so much, but is only pro-active.
I was thinking more of a list of opened tabs activated automatically upon reaching a certain threshold. -
I did not notice this earlier, but now I see that even pinned tabs in the background are silently hibernated, without even a re-open of browser!!
This is going totally downwards. I will never be notified anymore !!!
If this is one of your ways of claiming better memory performance, I shudder to continue using this browser. Please advise.
There better be a setting for this I can access and deactivate otherwise it will be unusable even in the interim, assuming you are fixing it.

The option to alter that will be offered - just not yet. For the moment, Vivaldi only offers switches to improve memory or CPU load, not to consume more resources. However, the ability to reduce resource economy will become an option. There's no ETA on it at the moment.

A "reload ALL pinned tabs" only button would be neat too so we can proactively do it instead of clicking on each of the many pinned tabs.

Been discussed/requested for quite a while
See https://vivaldi.net/en-US/forum/vivaldi-browser/6811-lazy-loading -
This has a direct consequence to https://vivaldi.net/en-US/forum/vivaldi-browser/11892-tab-notification
IMO, more than 'sync' I think people would want the silent-hibernate or lazy loading of important tabs to be eliminated as we are likely never to be notified once it hibernates !! be it desktop notification or new chat message or new emails.
I use desktop primarily for all communication though I have a mobile (which is never around), and have a browser app for each of those mobile apps as it gets very aggravating typing into the mobile
Someone please escalate this before it forces people away.
I like V so much that I have referred it to everyone I know, and am willing to overlook manually adding all my search engines and keywords for bookmarks and manually sync between computers like it was 1999 but this is a major blocker IMO

Steffie,
You are correct, but there is no "Windows & Mac" forum
Also, according to the blogs, Linux will have it as soon as the devs get it to work :evil:rojaviv,
You can escalate this problem yourself.
That way you can describe the problem exactly as you see it (and not rely on someone else to interpret your posts).Go to https://vivaldi.com/bugreport
You will receive a reply email with the bug number VB-xxxx
and you can then reply to that with a link to this thread. However, the bug tracker is only available to Vivaldi and insiders, it is not publicly available. So the only way to know it has been solved is to check each Changelog as it appears.
