[Bugs] Garbled local-disk file URL in Speed Dial / correct URL not accepted.
-
I'm trying to create a Speed Dial button for a page on the local disk and nothing works. - If I simply use the local path to the file, the colon character from the drive spec gets replaced with a forward slash, and the backslash characters get converted to percent-encoding, so "D:\Dox\Home.html" -> "http://d/\Dox\Home.html" Such a URL is useless, it leads to the "This site can't be reached" error page, which is also used to generate the thumbnail. - If I try to use the correct "file:///" URL (with 3 slashes) to create the Speed Dial button, the [Add] button stays disabled. "file:///D:\Dox\Home.html" -> can't create the Speed Dial button - If I try to use an alternate "file://" URL (with 2 slashes), the colon character from the drive spec simply gets stripped and all backslashes turn into forward slashes, and of course I end up with a useless URL again, one that leads to the "Your file was not found" error page, which is also used to generate the thumbnail, so I get: "file://D:\Dox\Home.html" -> "file://d/Dox/Home.html". So in the end I just have no way to create a working Speed Dial button for a locally stored page.

You could do it the "long" way as a Workaround:
- Open new tab in Vivaldi
- Use File / Open File… to open the local document
- Now, it can be added as Speed Dial Button via the "Add Bookmark" button in the address field.
This works in Vivadi 1.2.490.39 () (32-bit) Stable
Using your example, it would be created as "file:///D:/Dox/Home.html"
However, you are correct that this cannot be entered as the URL for the local file. Not sure if this is the same bug (VB-17449) as reported in https://vivaldi.net/en-US/forum/vivaldi-browser/11069-can-not-open-local-html-file
Have a read through that and see if you feel a new bug report is needed for Speed Dial - if so then please report it.

It's not the same bug. And I thought I had already reported mine by creating this topic. Or is there an official bug tracker that I'm not aware of?
-
Submit bugs and feature requests via the Bug Tracking Wizard
The tracker is not open ,but if you post in the forums first as you did, others will often tell you if a bug is known.
You can also edit your first post to select an Exclamation icon that identifies the thread as a bug, or a red cross for a crash.

Because when you do try to enter it as the url of a Speed Dial tile, the "add" button is not activated - as if the url is incomplete.

Ah, OK. That does work, but I would've never thought to do it that way, since I don't associate the Speed Dial with what have been traditionally called "bookmarks" - a functionality I never used (though they are the same kind of thing when I think about it, just not as accessible and visual).
-
In Vivaldi, Speed Dial is just a folder in Bookmarks.
You can define ANY folder/Sub folder (and more than one) in your Bookmarks to be a Speed Dial.
Edit Folder - Use as Speed Dial -
