Tabs no longer saving
-
After the last update it seems Vivaldi no longer opens the the tabs I had open last time I used the browser. Only pins show up. This continues to happen any time I close my browser and reopen it.
-
Another thing I just noticed. The pins are no longer saved as pins when you reopen the browser. They show up as tabs instead. I've tried deleting the last tabs and last session data to start over but it appears the same issue shows up even after a fresh batch of tabs and pins are made.

No such problem here. Whether the tabs are pinned or not, Startup with last session works as expected.

What's your platform? Have you any extensions? Have you any 3rd party security software that could be "protecting" the session file from being altered?

I have the following extensions installed.
- Adblock Plus
- Tabs Backup & Restore (I installed this once I noticed Tabs were not saving. I was getting sick of losing everything).
- Tampermonkey
- Desktop Notifications for Android
- Clear Session (clears cache and cookies when I press it)
- Buffer
My OS is Windows 7 64bit
Microsoft Security Essentials is the only security program I have installed. The tabs not saving issue literally started right after the last update for the browser.

In one way or another, I can imagine how all but the 4th (notifications) and last (buffer) might have some impact on your issue.
If I recall without reading back, I think you already tried renaming the "Default" folder.
How about the User Data folder?
There is some incompatibility here which is gumming up the works - and short of sending your machine to Vivaldi for them to run experiments, I'm trying to think of how to address something we just haven't thought of.

So I just ran another test. Usually I have a few pins, some single tabs and also tabs made into groups. I just made sure that the browser only had Tabs this time. I closed it and reopened it and as usual the tabs load fine if I reopen the browser right away. As soon as I shut down or reboot the computer and open the browser, those tabs are now gone. This sounds like an issue with the session file not being loaded correctly when the computer is rebooted. This issue does not happen in Chrome or Firefox so we can rule out the possibility that my computer is doing something with files when shutting down.

I just did more testing. I renamed the User Data folder. Vivaldi loaded up and I added some pins, tabs, and tab groups. Closed the browser and reopened it. Everyone loaded as expected. I rebooted my computer and everything loaded! Since this worked I then proceeded to move the old Default folder into the new User Data folder. I reboot my browser, everything loaded so then I reboot my computer, opened up Vivaldi and bam, no tabs loaded. So I think you're right. Something is messed up in the default folder. I'm 90% sure it's not extensions since this was happening yesterday with no extensions installed. I'm gonna try deleting the User Data folder again and import all my bookmarks and stuff. Then do a fresh install of the extensions.

I think your computer IS doing something with files when shutting down, but only Vivaldi files. Or, on your machine, and your machine only, Vivaldi is incapable of properly saving a session file - which is odd, if the file is intact until you restart your machine.
Question: Do you have any housekeeping software on your machine which runs at shutdown or startup?

So I just started from scratch. I moved over just my bookmarks and saved forms. I manually installed the extensions I had before and then opened a bunch of tabs. Set a few as Pins and made a few tab groups. Reboot my PC and everything seems to work now. The only thing difference is that I haven't gone through and adjusted any Vivaldi settings yet or set any web panels on the left of the browser. I'll keep you guys informed if the issue shows up again or if I figure out the cause.

OK! I await your results with bated breath…
