Is it possible to split the viewing screen in two?
-
I've been using Vivaldi for three days and am amazed! What a fantastic browser. Can anyone tell me whether it's possible to split the browser window in two - as if it were a Word document? I'd like to keep the top part of the webpage static and scroll through the bottom. Is this possible? I did see a post about doing it but it was with Apple, and I'm running Windows.

Hi Ellie,
Thanks so much for your quick response, much appreciated!
I can use that to work around but what I was really looking for was a way to take one tab and split it in two, to keep the top half static while I scroll through the second half.
If you know of a way to do that that would be wonderful, but if not what you showed me is certainly a step closer, so thanks very much! I'm going to use that anyway as I wasn't aware of how to do that.
Have a great day,

Ellie? Where did I get that from?! - Steffie Thanks again.

If you clone your tab, then tile the two clones it does what you want

Thank you Yes, it does, perfect…

I have a very nice button for Opera (created by Sgunhouse IIRC), which splits the current tab with one click and allows the tiles to be resized. Another click will split the page vertically, and aong click will reload the page which will remove the split.
I wonder if anyone can use this code to create a bookmark for Vivaldi that will do the same? I attach the entire button code here for the benefit of Opera 12.18 users.¹ Add it to your Toolbar.ini.
¹ Or at least I would do if plain text files were permitted.

There are many external solutions.

Why an app when Vivaldi can do this without them?

I am not in favour of installing extensions, and in Opera 12.17 I don't need to. A few lines of javascript code is all it takes to get a fully functional button.
Vivaldi cannot do it yet. There is currently no option to resize tiles, though no doubt it will come in due course, and you have to clone the tab, i.e. start another Vivaldi process, select both tabs, then tile them.
This is a perfectly viable workaround, and I have no complaints about that, but it's not just one click so I wonder if it is already possible to do with a bookmark in Vivaldi? Bookmarklets don't work yet either.

Right, but an app for one click more? Ok, i cant resize windows, but Vivaldi is in v 1.2. I prefer wait next versions (sorry for my english)

I did not suggest using an app. The best route I found so far is not just two clicks.
[ol]
- GestureDown (I assigned it to Clone Tab)
- Control + Click on cloned tab to select both
- Right-click on selected tabs.
- Tile two tabs
- Open the Tile popup from the Status bar
- Select Tile Horizontally
[/ol]
That's OK, I am not complaining, but I make that six clicks and a lot of mouse movement.
I am just saying, "Maybe this could be done with a bookmark?"

Ok 3 clicks
1 Ctrl+right click on the other tab
2 click on tab buton en status bar
3 click on prefered split

The one I linked is not an app. Is an extension.
And clearly I linked it because it can do something that Vivaldi can't do ATM.
I can understand the users who don't want to install remote password management, or some random sync services.
But why refusing to install a small javascript if it does what you need?
This is a case where integralsim sounds like masochism

Ok, some extensinss maybe important or better than function of Vivaldi, but manyextensions I had with Chrome I don´t need in Vivaldi, for example Dark Reader (better for my poor old eyes and for the battey of my laptop) because Vivaldi have this function better one in the status bar.
Extensións for screenshots i don´t need, because I'm using an soft for desctop (Postimage http://postimage.org/app.php), much better than all in Chrome Store -
