Read emails return as unread
-
@eggert In M3, from "Unread" folder, I'm noticing that marking email items as "Read", reappear as "unread" in the "Unread" folder.... ?? TIA

@janrif This is a bit outside my field of speciality in the client. I've pinged someone who is more knowledgeable.

Hi @janrif
Thanks for the report!
Where are you marking them as read? In the Unread folder or somewhere else?
What kind of account are these messages on? vivaldi.net? gmail? other?
Is this on IMAP, POP or an offline account?
Does this happen consistently or just once in a while?
Is the message marked read on the server (viewing it from a different client (e.g. a web client)?

In the Unread folder

Gmail

IMAP

It is consistent. I've repeated the exercise 3x w the same result
Is the message marked read on the server (viewing it from a different client (e.g. a web client)?
I checked msgs sent to my Gmail Acc & it appears that the msgs marked "Read" in Vivaldi are not translating to GMail server.
TIA

Please open vivaldi://inspect/#apps and click "inspect" under "Vivaldi ... browser.html", then select the "Console" tab.
There you'll see a log, do you notice any errors (red text) popping into the log when you mark a message as read?
-
@janrif This should be a setting on the Gmail service itself, I recall the exact same issue in M2 and that's how it was resolved. Gmail has settings on what they allow mail clients to do, you'll need to tell them to allow mail clients to mark mail as read.

@sgunhouse Tks for the tip. The only relevant setting I could find had to do marking "delete"...... unfortunately nothing about "read".

@gudmundurg74 Under inspect apps, console I found the following (illustrated) full of red text). I don't know if this is what you were talking about. This is a little over my head

@janrif Do you have a Junk folder in Vivaldi Mail which you don't see in other mail clients or on the gmail website?
Does restarting Vivaldi change anything?

@gudmundurg74 In fact I had an "extra" junk folder in Gmail which I've since deleted. And I've marked my original selection of Vivaldi email items as "Unread". It seems to be holding so that may well have been the problem. I'll update if problem returns. Thanks so much for your support. Much appreciated.
