Logged out of all sites
-
This morning I got logged out of all sites I was logged on to. This is fairly inconvenient as a lot of services now enforce two factor authorization so it makes me fiddle with my phone a lot.
I think it has happened a few times in the past.
Not sure why it is happening. There are two possible culprits:
-
My computer run out of battery and shut down uncontrollably when I did not joing the cable to my adapter two days ago (but I was using Vivaldi yesterday without issues).
-
Some sites complained that I needed to clear local storage for them to work. I did not do that. I noticed Slack was taking up almost 1 GB (I am not alone with that: https://www.reddit.com/r/Slack/comments/mj21mo/slack_is_using_too_much_space_in_my_browser/ - Slack is a horrible invention I am forced to use) but I did not clear that. I checked this morning and it had only a few KB. Is it somehow possible something caused local storage to be reset and that made me sign out? There are lots of cookies stored for other sites.
Has it (being signed of all sites) ever happened to you?

@felagund You use Vivaldi start-up with Last session? The you should not get logged out.
New IPs by internet provider (after router/DSL modem reset) mostly cause log-out as most sessions are bound to IP to enhance security.
Unexpected shutdown can cause broken data files.
And i know, some privacy extension clean the cookies after a while. -
Hm, I was fiddling with my modem about two weeks prevously, restarting it and such and I think I was not logged out at the time. Maybe it has some sort of lag? No privacy extension.

@felagund Hi - the only reason for being logged out of web sites is clearing cookies. So you'll need to figure out why that happened on your system.
I'm not so sure about that session being tied to IPs stuff mentioned above to be honest. A site connecting IP address and session cookies together would be really strange as IPs can never be relied on being static but users prefer staying logged in.
-
hm, but I do have some cookies (160 of them for 41 one sites - some of the sites I have not visited today). Weird. But yeah, looks like some cookies got wiped out.
-
@felagund Search cookies for the domain in
chrome://settings/siteData
or in Settings → Privacy → Saved Cookies, are they really gone? -
@felagund You do not use external cleaner tools like CCleaner?
-
@DoctorG said in Logged out of all sites:
chrome://settings/siteData
As I said, there are 161 cookies for 40 sites - I think that is less than normal but too much for today's browsing.
I do not use any external cleaners and I never actually clean cookies manually.
-
@felagund Such number of cookies should not really cause your problem.
Next time inspect content of cookie and check expiration date. Perhaps the server you connected to had set a shorter expiration while you was surfing.
-
That still should not have caused me being signed out of all sites. But next times it happens I will immediately inspect the cookies.
