Vivaldi-snapshot-1.2.479.8-1.x86_64 is extremely CPU-hungry
-
After upgrade of vivaldi-shapshot to 1.2.479.8-1 i noticed its hunger for CPU, after opening more than 2 tabs I get near 100% percent of each (two) CPU cores consumed. I run on Fedora 23 64 bit J.

Hi, cant verify with 1.2.479.8 on:
Opensuse Tumblweed x86_64
CPU Intel T4200 4 GB
GPU Intel GN 965
xf86-video-intel 2.99.917-6.1CPU usage is 20% with 3 tabs incl. one running Youtube video
Cheers, mib

when running vivaldi –disable-gpu I get similar CPU usage as with normal run. However, WEB graphics is not as fluent as with enabled gpu in vivaldi.
On the other machine with an old radeon v370 gpu I don't see the problem.
I will try to start vivaldi in fresh user profile and see if there are any differences.

I have run through different acceleration methods as well as settings (glamour, SNA, UXA, DRI3, DRI2, modesetting). Finally I decided to stay on medesetting.
The thing which I "feel" helped significantly was turning off AdBlock Plus extension.
On the other hand MS Windows users noticed the same problem.

That is obvious, but I have checked the upgraded things before going for help here, and it turned out that I didn't upgrade any of extensions but the browser itself and this was the main reason for slowing down the browsing (downgrading Vivaldi helped).
All the other things were just the consequences of the upgrade. Switching off the extensions is not what I want to achieve. It is the consequence not the reason. I have now 1.2.479.8 running on modesettings X11 driver on intel GM45 without AdBlock Plus as smooth as previous Vivaldi snapshot on SNA accelerated Intel X11 driver and AdBlock Plus active.
Removing user profile and starting "fresh" profile helped also MS Windows Vivaldi users. So I guess there is something with extensions mechanism.

One user was complaining the new snapshot had slowed his browsing to a crawl. Several have. But this guy switched his ad-blocking extension from one of the Ad-Block or Ad-Guard ones to UBlock Origin, and says his Vivaldi became lightning fast. Since then, I've noticed a couple of similar reports.
When a bunch of users complain "This snapshot totally torpedoed my browser speed" they never also say, "Oh, yeah - and I run an ad-blocking extension" That little bit of data could wind up being critical, it turns out.
Just like many users who said "suddenly Vivaldi won't open at all" failed to mention they had installed a script-blocking extension. Turns out in most cases that was the culprit.
So one of the conventions we might promote around here, would be to encourage users to tell us their version-number, platform, AND EXTENSIONS, so that we can help the devs debug faster.

This issue touches on a feature set that is unfortunately absent from today's browsers. Modern desktop environments offer easily switchable, customisable spaces for different workflows a user may have. Web browsers have hidden profiles that are difficult to set up and switch between, plus the private mode which isn't all that useful except for its specific use case. It strikes me obvious that one should have access to a profile menu from the basic user interface and be able to start a new browsing instance with a blank profile by clicking a button (think of user with a messed up profile trying to find the cause of a problem). For example, I would love to have a separate profile that remembered my Facebook cookies, sandboxed in its own process.

@kumiponi
I think this is a wonderful idea. I would love to have banking/news/forums/incognito/work/mail profiles separately on each tab and be able to switch between on free will
