cool update!

@Ruarí Nice surprise Snapshot!
[Theme] Accent color limits may affect original theme color (VB-90626)
Great, my Red Stars theme now looks like it should!
-
Heh - funny... I just fired up the desktop here, opened the snapshot and noticed it behaved differently during startup(*). Checked for new version - says it's current. Come here - find out it must have background-installed a new version at the same time it was released!
(*) edit: thought I should elaborate... no Windows 7 style window buttons at the top of a blank window while it "thinks about" bringing up the rest of the UI for a moment - instead there was a dark blank window (I have dark theme) while the Vivaldi icon in the task bar had a kind of pulsing accent to indicate something was happening. Took a bit longer than usual then the whole UI popped on screen (I think it used to kind of rapidly build up instead of appearing already complete).

[Theme] Accent color limits may affect original theme color (VB-90626)
My title bar and top-positioned address bar form a cohesive block of accent colour again (tab bar at bottom)... don't know if that's the above change or the reverted window controls but it looks much better than different blocks of colour all over the UI.

This snapshot and the previous one mess badly with my search engines.
On updating I now have restored search engines which I have previously deleted (especially Bing and Yahoo which never wants to die!!!) and multiples of some like DDG, wikipedia.
I then have to re-delete on every instance I update
Anyone else seeing this?

I see it if I look at the settings although it doesn't affect my daily use. I've seen it mentioned in other snapshot threads (or maybe that was you?).

Not me, I must have missed it in the other threads.
It used to be an issue when the format (storage location?) of the search engines was changed, but for me has behaved itself for the last month or two.
Maybe I have just been lucky!
But it is a real pain when they just keep re-appearing - aaarrrrggghhhhh!
-
@cheekybuddha Generally I find it's better to leave the default search engines alone. They will just come back, because they are defined as defaults.
Instead, if you need the keyword for something else, change the keyword.
Yahoo ->
ya
(I usey
for Youtube)
Bing ->bi
(I useb
for Bandcamp)Also you can of course edit the default engines, for instance I add the search suggestions URL for Google, and it should stick.
But if you delete search engines, they will just come back in my experience, and you end up with duplicates to be cleaned up.

Thanks for the advice, but not really a solution for a customisable browser!
I have quite a few custom search engines and I don't want to waste the space with search engines that I will never use.
The long and short of it is that it's a buggy implementation. hopefully the dev's will get to look at it sometime.
I just wanted to know whether this was a known regression before I submit a bug report.
Being a long time user of V snapshots I'm happy to put up with these frustrations as they occur, but if we want to promote V as the best browser then these things can damage its reputation with new users.
-
@cheekybuddha Sure, it's up to you if you want to make a bug report
For me I don't mind seeing Yahoo or Bing, I just change the keyword and forget about them. They are not a privacy risk (as some of the more paranoid users seem to think) by just existing as a search engine. At the most, just a visual distraction in the lists. Since I use keyword searches from the address bar I never see them...
If you want to test and report this properly, I suggest starting with a clean profile, installing an older version, deleting search engines, and then updating it to recreate the problem of engines coming back after update.
If you want to see more technically how it works, go to the URL:
chrome://settings/searchEngines
The ones under "Search Engines" before "Site Search" are defaults.
You will notice that their URL cannot be changed, and even if you delete them from Vivaldi UI, they will still exist in the Chromium settings page.If you change some property (keyword) in Vivaldi, a copy will be created which is the one shown in the Vivaldi list.
I suppose you could try deleting an engine directly in the Chromium list, then possibly it will be gone "for ever", not sure.

@Ruarí Welcome back!
I simply love your coming-back gift! -

Theme fixed should make some people happy. -
@nutcracker said in Invalid icons and reverting overlay – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2751.3:
Two version ago I wrote "Since the previous version, sometimes the browser closes when closing multiple tabs".
It happens at least for 3 years, but, most likely, even longer.
For me, mostly it happens when many tabs are open (often when these pages are opened and browser asks if you want to save your changes: you answer "no" and crash happens), which means that PC have high RAM usage and some tabs may be silently unloaded by browser - maybe it matters. -
I am late. Upgrade the broadband to 1000Mbps at home, tossing all night
@guigirl it's Tuesday today!

What is this? Could find VB-90715 in search. TU
"[Mail] Panel Order and Visibility setting box looks tighter (VB-90715)"
-
@janrif A mail settings page had less space between checkbox list items. That was fixed.
-
@pathduck: ugh... I just tried this and after deleting google and bing, Vivaldi shut down on me. I'll need to test this more thoroughly before submitting a BR (new user account, different workstation), but I had it happen 2 times in my current environment.

And still the problem with the address bar having focus when a tab is opened. Such an annoyance, that I go back to 2729.
