Inconsistent clipping web to Note
-
5.4.2753.3 (Official Build) (64-bit) Clipping web content to Note from web sometimes produces selected information in text and sometimes only produces HTML link w/o note & w/o title. What's up with that?
-
@janrif Please, can i have a example and a few steps to reproduce it?

@DoctorG The steps are:
select data from webpage
copy to noteText Example: you see selected material
HTML Example: you see blank note w image & no title
And in the same area Capturing to Note doesn't produce anything
HTH. Thank you for your interest

@janrif Copying raw text or HTML formatted content works for me with 5.4.2753.3 Win 11.
Do you have a special webpage where this happens.

No. That's part of the problem. I never know which way clip to note will be rendered. It happens daily to multiple -- but not all -- webpages. Maybe I'm missing a setting or something. I don't do anything weird. I make selection in webpage & use option "Clip to Note" I don't what else to say on this subject except to say it is very annoying & not so productive. Thanks for your interest.

Give an example of such a webpage where it happens. If you don't give an example no-one is able to reproduce and nothing will happen.
Making a bug report of "something weird happens on some sites some of the time" will not get things fixed.

@DoctorG Just to be very clear: Are you stating this kind of Clipping to Note behavior has never happened to you?
-
@janrif Such issue never happened to me. All notes are filled with text. I tried adding notes with Ctrl+Shift+C and by context menu.

@janrif Are you sure you're not misunderstanding how this is supposed to work?
"When you save the capture as a note, the screenshot will be saved with the capture date and page URL. The note won’t have a title or any text content, so go to the Notes Panel or Notes Manager to add it."
https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/tools/capture-a-screenshot/"The note will be added with the capture as an attachment, the webpage link and creation date. You can add a title and note about the screenshot."
https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/tools/notes-manager/It just captures a screenshot from the selection, it does not capture formatted HTML content.

I'm sorry but I don't think what you offer is the complete answer.
For example:
Open Wikipedia web page in new tab
Search for item
Select material from search page results
Select <Copy to Note> command
Vivaldi adds selected text content to Note and the date & URLHowever, Open Mail
Select sentence or paragraph
Select <Copy to Clipboard>
Create a new note
Click paste inside new blank note
Selected text nor URL nor time are pasted anywhereAnd as I posted to begin with
If user is on some websites and user marks selection and <Copy to Note> sometimes Vivaldi includes selection in body of note and URL and date and sometimes it just produces screenshot & URL w/o Title and Text Content.......so my conclusion is there is inconsistency in Clip to Note function and it would be nice to know which result user is going to get before commiting to the function.

@janrif You said absolutely nothing about Mail, are we supposed to just guess what you're talking about?
However, Open Mail
Select sentence or paragraph
Select <Copy to Clipboard>
Create a new note
Click paste inside new blank note
Selected text nor URL nor time are pasted anywhereI cannot confirm this - copying text from a HTML mail into a new note works fine. Also there is no "Copy to clipboard" option, so I'm going to guess you mean right-click -> Copy from the context menu.
Video: https://ttm.sh/w60.mp4Obviously there is no URL when pasting a note directly from the clipboard, as there is no way of knowing what URL you got the text.
However, since you finally made it clear it was Mail, I can confirm that when choosing "Copy to Note" from an email the note content will be empty.
Video: https://ttm.sh/w6S.mp4Please report this as a bug, make sure to mention that this is from the Mail client and not web pages, and make sure to create detailed step-by-step instructions how to recreate the issue.
https://vivaldi.com/bugreport/And as I posted to begin with
If user is on some websites and user marks selection and <Copy to Note> sometimes Vivaldi includes selection in body of note and URL and date and sometimes it just produces screenshot & URL w/o Title and Text Content.Again, you will need to provide reproduction steps, because no-else can reproduce this. If it's only sometimes you'll need to figure out when this sometimes occurs. Not easy but keep trying to find a pattern when it happens.
And again, example web sites will help others test and try to reproduce the problem.
Also, might I suggest that since you're obviously struggling to explain what you're seeing on-screen, that you learn to make simple screen recordings to let others understand what you're talking about. It's not really difficult to do so and there are several programs to allow you to do so.

@janrif I can confirm the issue with Vivaldi Mail 1.0!
Please report bug to Vivaldi tracker i will confirm internally. -
@Pathduck I really take exception to the "tone" of your reply. Please don't "speak" to me this way again. It is definitely not helpful. Thank you.
