Settings need better descriptions.
What does 'Activate next related tab' mean? It activates the one on the far right.
Related tab= a "child" tab, middle button on link, that new tab will be a related tab. Pretty simple IMO
What does 'Activate prvious in activation order" mean?
Chronological order (instead of graphical order. From left ro right to put it in other words.

What does 'Activate next related tab' mean? It activates the one on the far right.
What does 'Activate prvious in activation order" mean? It activates the one on the far right. Not impressed yet.
These referred to how Tabs were opened.
"Previous in Activation Order" will switch to the tab which was opened immediately BEFORE the Tab that is being closed."Activate Next Related Tab" will switch to the rightmost parent/sibling tab of the tab being closed. With no related Tabs it uses Activation order.
Note: When you open new tabs from a link in your current tab, they share a relationship. For example, say you perform a search in your current tab and Ctrl+Click the first search result, it will then open next to its "parent". If you Ctrl+Click a second result, the new tab will place itself next to its "sibling".
Thus, if you only have tabs opened from the first tab (i.e. all tabs are siblings of the first parent tab) - both settings will produce the same result.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I'm afraid I didn't understand your description though. Maybe I'm too stupid for Vivaldi.

Or maybe my description wasn't clear enough - although, to be honest, the operation is not straightforward and simple!!
First, there is no option to just select the tab based on its position in the tab bar. This has been requested and will become available in a later update (but no timescales are available). Although, even which position a new tab will take on opening is not simple :silly:
The way Vivaldi does it at the moment is based on how the TABs were opened.
So perhaps an example will clarify:
I have the setting "New TAB position next to related TABS" activated.Start Vivaldi and you have Speed Dial and the only TAB. Call this (1).
From Speed Dial you open two TABs (2) and (3).
From TAB (2) you open two more TABs (4) and (5).
You can see I have numbered them in activation order!
(1) (2) (3) (4) (5)
[This would be the order with the Setting "New TAB always last"]However, if you look at the TAB bar you will see that the TABs are actually ordered as
(1) (2) (4) (5) (3)
[ this is "New TAB position next to related TABS" ]This is because (4) and (5) are what they call siblings of (2).
SO when you close TAB (3) which tab will be active?
From your description you want TAB (5) to open - because that is the TAB bar order
However, the TAB opened before TAB (3) was TAB (2) and so that will now be the active TAB.Similarly, when you close TAB (4) which tab will be active?
In activation order, it will be TAB (3), that was the TAB opened before TAB(4)
In related order, it will be TAB (5) because this is also a "child" of TAB (2)If you want TAB to left, you expect it to be TAB(2); if you want TAB to right you expect it to be TAB (5)
As you, hopefully, can see. Predicting the next active TAB when closing one is complicated because it depends on a mix of different settings. And when you start opening more tabs (mixing foreground and background) it can become a nightmare.
Edit: It is so complicated, I don't worry about it.
With the settings "New TAB position next to related TABS" and "Activate Next Related Tab" I know that that when I close a tab Vivaldi will switch to a "related" TAB wherever it is on the TAB bar. So I can ignore that positioning. -
Same disappointment here. Can't you give us a simple way to make vivaldi manage tabs like the other browsers do?

No offense, but you are the king of users that goes to the Italian or Japanese restaurant, and then wants a Ketchup as topping for spaghetti or sushi?
If you want something that has the taste of a big mac, just go to the first random fast food restaurant.
Supposedly if you want to test some Italian or Japanese dishes it's because they are DIFFERENT!!!
-
Well, no offence, but you need to read about somthing called "user experience".
The tab behavior is in most browsers the same, but not in vivaldi. Vivaldi is trying to reinvent the wheel. It's good to offer some options, but what's the meaning / difference of:
[ul]- Cloned Tab Position
- New Tab Position
- When Closing A Tab Activate
- Tab Cycling
- Tab Stacking
- …
[/ul]
It's like making a car , you can't drive before making a special license, for this car only.

Hi guys,
To make a long story (or thread) short: We will go over the feature descriptions again making sure they aren't ambiguous or simply unclear. If you have other settings you find problematic could you add them to this thread? Would't like to have to do it more than twice! Oh, and if you have suggested alternative descriptions feel free to add them. And please do not rewrite the whole UI!

Yeah, "New Tab Position" doesn't actually mean a new tab, but a new link. That confused me so many times. I think it should be called "Open New Links" or something like that.

Hi guys,

There are some places where the description is wordy or ambiguous.
I will add more to this post as I come across them, so please check back when you're working on this.

That's all I could find for now.
