How To? - Opera 12.16 Feed Messages to Vivaldi Mail Feed Reader
-
I would be grateful to see step-by-step instructions for
- off-line transfer of
- all emails, feeds, and feed "messages"
- from Opera 12.16 to the Vivaldi 5.3 email client. (Mac OS 10.14.6.)
The Mail tab in Opera 12.16 includes Feeds.
Not just the list of current RSS subscriptions, but all of the individual feed messages received in the past. -
@DF55 Don’t think that’s possible. You can of course export your Opera feeds and import them in Vivaldi, but this won’t include any feed items, they need to be loaded anew.
-
@luetage
so you can't migrate (old) rss items into an offline account or similar?one account for all old rss feed items is not nice or practical but better than nothing
-
@derDay I think we have a misunderstanding. Exporting/importing feeds exports all feeds (the link to the feed) separately, but feed items, the actual entries/blog posts/whatever are of course not included. That would make the backup incredibly large.

but that's what I (and others, see TE) want to do

naaa, a feed item is more or less some txt file. my entire M2 mail folder is round about 1,5GB big, with mails and feeds from 10+ years

There’s no standardized way of doing this for feeds, no support : /
-
mb(o)x import option would be a first step
-
I tried with a workaround by making the feed messages available in a Pop account in Vivaldi mail and then importing that pop account into Vivaldi. I think this might work but I failed so far. This is what I did:
-
in Opera 12.x, right-click the feed view and export the feed messages as .mbs.
-
in Opera Mail (or Opera 12.x), set up a dummy pop account with dummy server details.
-
import the .mbs as a generic mbox into that pop account in Opera Mail.
Now Opera Mail shows the feed messages in the inbox of a pop account, and the Vivaldi importer "sees" that pop account and the import function can be triggered.
Sadly I was not able to get the feed messages to appear in Vivaldi mail.

Do you mean something like this? Imported Feed items from Opera 12.x.

Did you import the messages directly from Opera or does the Feed sync and then when you click the item loads? I went off of this statement

@WildEnte if I remember correctly, I imported the RSS feed items into an Opera POP3 account and then imported the account as POP3 into Vivaldi.
However, I did not pursue this further, as I am still waiting for a reasonable solution from Vivaldi . -
@mottenmouse that's what I tried to do and failed. So if you can describe how you managed to do this it might serve as a workaround for some - see @DF55's original post.

@DF55 @all: A workaround to make old RSS feed items from Opera visible in Vivaldi using a POP account. Tested today with Linux Ubuntu 20.04, Opera 12.16 and Vivaldi Stable 5.3.2679.61.
Switch to Opera:
- Create a new POP account. Choose an email address, e.g. "RSS Feeds from Opera". It is not necessary to choose a valid email address.
- Select a RSS feed. Export to a file
- Since the name of the RSS Feed is not converted correctly, this must be changed afterwards:
Open the mbs file. Check the entry "From:". Change the entry/entries with the desired RSS feed name. - Repeat for all other RSS feeds.
- Run File --> Import and Export --> Import Mail ... --> Import generic mbox file
Add the desired mbox files and import them into the new POP account.
Switch to Vivaldi
- Run "Import from 12.x" the account created in Opera.

@mottenmouse -- Thank you. I am not at home this weekend, but I will try this as soon as I am able.
