Youtube slow!

I just discovered a really quite serious bug in Vivaldi when using Youtube: video streams at less than half the speed of using Edge in Windows 10. Vivaldi struggles to stream Youtube video at 360p. Edge was showing the exact same video at 720p flawlessly. (Not at the same time, mind) Why is this? I can think of a couple possible reasons. Maybe Edge has some trick to make YT faster. But this doesn't hold water because the downloader I use - in Vivaldi - downloads at quite a faster speed than just playing them on the site. So is Youtube slowing down for Vivaldi? Or is there something considerably less than optimal with how Vivaldi runs the Youtube website? Coupled with the persistently unfixed touch event bugs, this is is almost certainly a deal breaker for me for using Vivaldi. Which is a shame as the feature set is otherwise excellent. Wade.

Edge usually gets the H264 movie (which usually is HW accelerated), while Cr based browsers usually gets the VP9 version (which usually is not HW accelerated).
Just check the "stat for nerds" on YT
But you can use either the h264ify extension to force the former version
alternatively you can disable the html5 altogether and use the flash version with this Disable Youtube HTML5 Player extension.

That would suggest that Youtube is not streaming VP9 streams as fast as other formats. I might have to install Chrome to do some comparisons.

No, You get wrongly what I said.
The streaming speed and the bitrate are roughly the same, what's not the same is the work that your CPU does to decode them.
H264 is an older format backed by many companies and often there is some form of HW decoding inside your GPU, VP9 is a free format backed mainly by Google it's newer and royalty free but most of the time there isn't [yet] any form of HW assistance.
So, especially if your PC isn't top notch the difference may be very noticeable.

It's definitely a connection speed problem. I looked at Youtube's "Stats for Nerds".
- Edge is getting 5kbps and avc1 720p video
- Opera is getting 7kbps and VP9 720p video
- Vivaldi is getting 400 bps and VP9 720p video.
I need to file a bug, don't I?
Wade.

Feel free to do so, possibly indicating a sample video to do some comparisons and explaing clearly the resolution taken in account and alike
Please post a sample video also here so other users can verify that behavior as well
