Few issues
-
I just heard of vivaldi from a friend and I'm amazed so far. yes, I'm an old opera fan and I really liked what you did with vivaldi. However, I'm having a few issues that I'd like to ask here. 1. How do I simulate mobile device in devtools? It's there in chrome devtool and also in opera 37. also how do I dock the window in the current tab? instead of keeping the inspection in a separate window. 2. How do I switch from opera 37? I mean transfer my bookmarks, speed-dials, custom searches etc. I'd like to see these features in the future if possible: 3. Can you please add the option to add custom mouse gesture action? I'd like to have "Switch to next/previous tab" in mouse gesture instead of back/forward. ( I've back/forward button in my mouse for that. ) 4. can you make it easy to select text of a link? like in old opera? There is a plugin called Select Like a Boss but I'd like to have it built-in instead. 5. Add/remove buttons in the address-bar/status-bar Thanks a lot to the team. Keep up the great work

2. I think Vivaldi will only import from Opera Stable. And if you want your speed dials, you want to go into the Opera bookmark manager and drag your speed dials into a regular bookmark folder. Custom searches, etc. will not be imported.
You could actually move your bookmark file from Opera 37 into Vivaldi but again you'd want to move the speed dials into it first.
Speed Dial in Vivaldi is not a special entity. It's a way to display ANY folder from your bookmarks you choose to.

1. How do I simulate mobile device in devtools?
It's there in chrome devtool and also in opera 37.
also how do I dock the window in the current tab? instead of keeping the inspection in a separate window.I'm not so skilled with the dev tools, but not sure you know that but a page added as webpanel sends the mobile UA, if not instructed explicitly to get the desktop version
'
Also there are many extensions able tho change the whole UA2. How do I switch from opera 37? I mean transfer my bookmarks, speed-dials, custom searches etc.
Under menu > file you have the import function.
BTW vivaldi doesn't import yet the Opera SD. You need to copy your tiles to a bookmark folders in Opera, then import the bookmarks then choose that folder as a speed dial (you can have more than one in vivaldi. And Vivaldi's SD is just a special view of one or more bookmarks folder
I'd like to see these features in the future if possible:
3. Can you please add the option to add custom mouse gesture action? I'd like to have "Switch to next/previous tab" in mouse gesture instead of back/forward. ( I've back/forward button in my mouse for that. )I think you'll be surprised from the next builds, just stay tuned for a week or two
4. can you make it easy to select text of a link? like in old opera? There is a plugin called Select Like a Boss but I'd like to have it built-in instead.
I think that when there are so many things to add, to improve, a function already fixable with two clicks can wait. But never say neverโฆ

I'm not sure if we are on the same page on this, But I was asking for the "Toogle Device Mode" button.

ok, understood. Is it possible to move custom searches as well? I've like 15-20 custom searches added.

I'll wait happily.

I can do with the plugin for now. It's just a feature I'd like to have sometime in the future.

I got it, not sure you got what I replied.
Just guessing but likely the consolle is slightly older than chrome's one and lacks that function, BTW I think you can workaround the problem with any UA switcher or opening the page as a web panel.
That said I'll ask to some dev about that, and I'll report back.

You could actually move your bookmark file from Opera 37 into Vivaldi but again you'd want to move the speed dials into it first.
Can you please describe it a bit more? I tried copying the "Bookmark" file from /profile/data folder of opera to "user data" folder of vivaldi.
It didn't work. I don't need speed dials. I can add them manually.
And what about custom searches?@Gwen-Dragon:
The device mode toggle button is missing, a old known Vivaldi bug.
oh, I see. Is there any other way to toggle device mode?

sorry I didn't understand what you meant earlier. Now I do. webpanel can be a workaround. but it'd be more convenient if I could turn on device mode somehow. if not, it is ok. I'll wait for future updates.

And what about custom searches?I'm unable to find an Opera/Profile folder. What I have is AppData/Roaming/Opera Software/Opera Next/ and a Bookmarks file in that. The Bookmarks file for Vivaldi is in AppData/Local/Vivaldi/User Data/Default. This is on Windows. Your system may vary. But the key is, that it lives in the Default folder.
Know that the internal data structure of the Bookmarks files in the two browsers is not identical. Hence, not ALL bookmarks might show. In such a case, let me know if some don't show up, and what folder they are in in the Opera Bookmarks manager, and I can probably advise you.
You will have to set up your own custom searches anew.

But the key is, that it lives in the Default folder.
It worked now but only bookmarks from Bookmarks bar folder is showing up.
so I moved all bookmarks and folders into bookmark bar folder and then moved the file. After that I arranged them in vivaldi.
I've lost icons for all bookmarks though. But I can live with that. -
I'm adding my custom searches into vivaldi, But I'm really really missing the "Search with" context menu item.
Please consider adding it when possible.

I've lost icons for all bookmarks though. But I can live with that. The icons can't be imported because the file structure of Opera and Vivaldi are different. All of the favicons will return as you visit the bookmark destinations, tho sometimes they will not show until the browser is re-started.
