Usability improvements to tab cycler
-
I have a few suggestions to improve the usability of the tab cycler: 1) Currently, if there are more than 5 tabs open, the tab cycler will only show 4 tabs, and instead of the "selector" moving through the tab thumbnails, it is the thumbnails that move, while the "selector" stays in place. This is very disorienting. The "selector" should always be the object that moves, not the tabs. 2) In the Tab settings, unchecking "Show Tab Thumbnails" should also disable thumbnails from the tab cycler, and instead just display a vertical list of tab titles (as Opera 12 did). 3) There should be an option to disable using the scroll wheel on the tab bar as triggering tab-cycling.

#3 go to Settings/Tabs and turn off "Switch Tabs by Scrolling."

I agree with #3, as Opera 12 had it where you could have the right-click scroll turned on for tab cycling, but didn't have it turned on for the tab bar, which was perfect.
Did you ever use O12's tab cycler? It was the best, instead of a horizontal row of thumbnails, it was a vertical list of the tab's titles, with and without thumbnails if you wanted it enabled, and the selector would move up and down. And you could customize the keyboard shortcut for it, instead of just using ctrl + tab and ctrl + shift + tab. I use my own shortcuts to move through different tabs, but it's annoying when some tabs are hibernated, so an O12 vertical tab cycler would be perfect, and I could move through tabs without activating hibernated tabs, and without using my mouse so much.

This is pretty much exactly what I need before I switch to Vivaldi. I really hope they make these improvements to the tab cycler soon.

I wouldn't hold my breath, current cycler is working as intended/relatively bug free. Devs have a lot bugs to resolve and features to implement first before improving this one.
Personally I like O12's cycler more but vivaldi's is usable. I like that they tried to innovate there but IMHO it is a failure.

I agree with damolbert.
Showing 4 tabs when I am trying to cycle through 20, or 100, or 1,000 is completely useless.
Opera 12.17 showed a whole screen of tabs while cycling through them. This made it easy to find the desired tab.
The only problem with the setup in Opera was that it only showed the most recent tabs (about 300 on my system, which usually has more than 1,000 tabs). The improvement that SHOULD be made is to cycle through all open tabs. Showing only 4 tabs is absolutely the wrong way to go.

I agree with greenenemy. A vertical list of titles would be a useful option if Thumbnails are disabled.
On my 1920 x 1080 monitor I can see 7 thumbnails, and cycle easily through a dozen or more tabs if necessary. Nothing would work well with 100 tabs, let alone 1000. Opening that many tabs is just ridiculous. That is what bookmarks or speed dials should be used for — to find other pages that you don't currently need to read.
