Upgrading from 4 to 5?
-
I'm running v4 (details below) and would like to upgrade to v5. I've attempted to download v5 and install and get "Installation failed due to unspecified error". I can't find any detail info about what failed. I see no useful log file being written anywhere or useful info in Windows Event log.
- Is upgrade from v4 to v5 a supported path? Or do I need to uninstall v4 and do a clean install of v5?
- Is there a known location where I can find a log file? I see many posts on this forum referencing what looks like a useful install log file, but I can't find any mention of where that is written to.
I am installing on a PC with some restricted access (v4 install wasn't impeded by this), but other apps have been depending on where various temp files are being written by the installer, etc. This is my first suspicious with any installation issues on this PC, but my hesistant to remove v4 as it could lead to being totally without my favorite browser. If I could find more details on what's failing, I'm sure I could sort it out or work around it. Any info or suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

@kbrowns
Hi, there are no restrictions to update from 4 or even version 3 of Vivaldi but I would prefer a fresh install and use sync to get your data back.
May you cant install Vivaldi at C:/ which is the standard path if you install for all users, for a user install all files are in \username\App Data
You can also install Vivaldi as standalone at any place you want and copy the important files over from your old install.

@mib2berlin Thank you for your time. The standalone install route got me home. I prefer that route anyway. I didn't realize that was an option. I prefer that route anyway.
