[Suggestion^Impl.] Show Tab Thumbnails: Disable accidental reactivation by mouse when it's disabled
-
Hi, it would be nice to disable accidental reactivation of Show Tab Thumbnails, when it's disabled in options. I mean I disabled this feature in options. From time to time I accidentally move over top of address bar and move it a little. Then this option is reactivated, but not that I want it to. So I have to move to options again. So it would be better to totally ignore activation by mouse itself I guess. Thank you for considering this. Configuration:

Vivaldi 1.1.453.6 (Developer Build) (32-bit)

OS Windows 7 x64

Update: Implemented: Specific release unknown. Tested in release 1.4.589.38 (Stable channel) (64-bit) / 1.5.618.8 (Developer Build) (64-bit) => Thank you!

me too, i really really want this, but exactly "Disable accidental reactivation", coz i like and use thumbnail, but not when i accidentally press mouse button. I think i want such options: show thumbnail ONLY when your mouse cursor above tab

Hi,
sure, but there are specific options for this two functions at Settings \ Tabs \ Tab Options:
Show Popup Thumbnails - This one shows preview of tab on mouse hover. This works just fine, and how I like it.
Show Tab Thumbnails - This one is showing fixed preview bar under tabs. This I reactivate from time to tome. Mostly while using my notebook touchpad. So it's possible to use first one how you like it, and still disable second one. Problem is only, that it can be reactivated by mouse by accident. So maybe there should be sub-option to allow activation by mouse, or something like it.

Since you chose the light-bulb icon, you don't need to include [Suggestion] in the thread title.
This setting is odd. If I enable it in Settings, Tabs, the previews are not displayed. Only if I drag the tab separator down are the previews displayed, which begs the question: "Why do we need an option in Settings at all?" Just drag the separator down to show the tab previews and drag it back up again to hide them.
I am in favour of options, but only up to a point. If there are too many it becomes harder to learn how to use the browser, and harder to support users in their efforts to configure it.
If the option in settings was the only way to show the tab previews, that would be a significant regression for easy use of the separator to show/hide tab previews. As it is, middle-click or double-click on the separator will show/hide the tab previews. It is quite slick, but it does not allow you to resize the previews as drag does.
Some more thought is needed, in my opinion, before making any change to this.

Hi,
without [Suggestion] I can't see it in searches, unable to export icons, simply text is easier for my point of usage here, to recognize what it's about. Only other way would be own category for this kind of posts. Other way icons are now all over good solution for everything.
As an option, maybe there should be only one to disable it. But I disagree about options to make things worse. It's always the other way around for me. More options is better to be usable to anyone. It only depends on how are options implemented, and easy to understand, using wizards, … I'm all for options where it's reasonable. I lost patience with developers/people that think that they know or can tell me what and how I should use it. Just waste of time.

The thumbnails on hover show popup thumbnails is already there.
I guess the show tab thumbnails option is currently broken, but I prefer it that way as it needs no option.

my last opera is 12.17 it has settings-advanced-tabs and
1-st show thumbnails on mouse hover
2-nd show tab thumbnails (same here but i think 2-nd just doesn't work, as for me i don't see different between on/off)why do i need this? I disable close button on tabs and close them by middle mouse and very often i just push button on this border under tabs

The difference in Opera 12.17 is that with setting 2 enabled, a double-arrow cursor appears over the separator between the tabs and the page. How big that separator is will depend on the skin. Enabling the setting does not open the tab previews, just as it doesn't in Vivaldi.

I understand why you might need it. You could avoid those mistakes by using the "Remove spacing above tabs in maximised window" then you can just move the mouse pointer to the top of the window, without having to be precise to hit the tab. The tabs acquire infinite height, so it's like hitting a single twenty with a dart instead of double tops.
I expect they will make it like Opera 12.17 later.
A suggestion to avoid the accidental drag problem would be to limit the tab thumbnail height to a minimum of 50 pixels, then it would just snap shut again unless you really meant to drag to open it.

When tabs are on the side, turning thumbs on and off is a necessary setting. You can't drag them into view or slide them shut.
