Vivaldi 1.0 cleartype font smoothing issue?
-
Hi Guys, Thank you for an awesome looking modern browser. Loving it so far. I am running on BUILD 1.0.435.40 () (32-bit) and I notice the font is not as smooth as I'd expect. Here is a screenshot comparing it to IE: (Left is Vivaldi and Right is IE classic) I'd like it if it was smoother. Thank you, xuggs Attachments:

Go to tools->settings->webpages->fonts and adjust the font size/type/etc. as you wish…

Most curious. With Vivaldi on Win10, I haven't noticed a jagged font issue like you're showing.

vivaldi://flags/#disable-direct-write
vivaldi://flags/#lcd-text-aa -
Those settings are untouched here. Xuggs, did you change one before?

Nope, never touched them before. Just a fresh new install of Vivaldi, no messing around. I will try what den_po suggested.

I tried both the settings but still no luck. New snip: (Left Vivaldi, Right IE)

What about in any other Chromium browser? Chrome, Slimjet, Opera (new), etc.
Does this do anything for you?

Seems fine on Chrome. (Left: IE, Right: Chrome)

I think it might have something to do with the latest BUILD of Windows 10. Apparently I found some feedback on Windows 10 Feedback hub where a few others have provided the same feedback i.e. "Font of Vivaldi Browser is changed after the newest Windows 10 preview build".
So basically I will wait for the next Windows 10 BUILD to see if it is resolved.
Thanks for all your help.

Oh, that problem:
I never would have guessed that's what you were talking about, since that's much more of a radical problem than font smoothness. The font is entirely wrong (too narrow), not unsmooth.
I just checked the Azure site, and it looks fine in Vivaldi on the latest Insider build, so that is not your problem.
Since fonts look fine for you in Chrome, then that extension that I mentioned shouldn't apply. I know a lot of Chrome users have significant problems with the look of fonts, thus that extension. I was thinking that your particular system was one of them.
