So stupid that new tabs always open speed dial
-
It's retarded that when you open a new tab it opens speed dial and there is no way to change it.. Pretty major fail for a browser that says it's for users. . I want it to open my homepage, not a stupid speed dial page that I never use. Now I have to open a tab and then go to my homepage.. It's a major oversight if you ask me..also I don't want a speed dial tab to open when the browser starts as well as my homepage.. I just want my homepage... Not two tabs at start.. One.. My homepage.. Stop forcing us to use this speed dial shit..

I think you're right. Tried the instructions from the other thread, but that doesn't open new tabs to home page as far as I can tell.

It is a major fail from first time posters to call the product “stupid” and “retarded”.
That's not the best way to introduce yourself to any online community. You may rely on the help of other community members if you decide that Vivaldi has a lot going for it.
I prefer the startup option to restore the last session, which gets around the problem of opening a Speed Dial tab.
This is the first final version of a browser that is still under development. Other options will become available in due course, but the developers' priorities may not match yours. Be patient, and be polite when asking for features.
This forum, unlike many forums, allows users to edit their own threads at any time so you could, if you wish, edit your thread title to make a polite request, and choose the Light Bulb icon to indicate that it is a suggestion and then edit the text to make it polite.

Wise words.

You don't need two tabs. It's just 1 extra click you are talking about here Hit the + for a new tab, Then hit home icon. (1 extra click). I'm sure this is probably just an oversight. It is version 1!

So there are two different complaints here:
First, Vivaldi doesn't have an option to open every new tab in your home page yet. It probably will at some point.
Second, when you select the "startup with home page" option there is a bug of long standing that this also opens speed dial at startup. It's well known, it's NOT the intended behavior, and the developers are going to fix it. HOWEVER, there is a simple workaround to select the "startup with specific pages" option, and just put your home page address in as the specific page. Then speed dial will not open every time you start the browser. Just your home page.

Or just hit Alt + Home (Pos1). You know, power users 'n all…
If her/his homepage is a search engine, then he/she is doing it wrong anyway.

I just started using Vivaldi three days prior to making my first post in the community. Vivaldi is now my default browser despite some annoyances. Yes, New Tab Home Page is a big one for me as well. I doubt that anyone who really takes the time to post this as a feature request is too lazy to add additional key strokes or clicks but its just that other major browsers either can do this, or there is an extension that makes it possible. Being a FF user for years, I've come to value this. A new tab opens my home page, which happens to be Bing. Further, the search bar is already active so I can simply start typing. If I use shortcut keys to create the new tab I can start typing without touching the mouse. Since I do no less than 100 searches on a typical day this in fact is sort of a big deal.
Another really nice capability that I think many would appreciate, ability to move the extension icons around. Again, with so much experience with FF and being a big fan of the great selection of extensions, I appreciate the ability to put things where I want them, where most convenient for me.
Regardless of these two items, as well as a small number of other annoyances, Vivaldi is a fantastic browser. It loads faster than FF, renders pages faster most of the time, and multimedia plays more smoothly. I am very happy that I found this browser. And I have added at least one more convert who tried this browser based on my recommendation.
Kudos to the entire Vivaldi team.

New tab page was introduced in the recent snapshots https://vivaldi.net/ .
The ability to move extension icons is much-requested. The codebase of the browser UI makes this fairly fraught, however, and it will take a while to get that feature, in all likelihood. -
I just installed the latest snapshot, way cool and thank you.
And yes, having the ability to move icons around is very nice, no doubt, but by no means a deal breaker. Vivaldi is the single most important application on my Windows 10 laptop. I truly hope that there is adequate financial support for continued development because this is a remarkable browser, something that today is hard to achieve in such a competitive arena.
If I may also add one more thing, and this is of course truly a pie in the sky desire, but I'm a MS guy mainly. I will be installing Vivaldi on my many Linux VMs, but the host is my Windows 10 platform. I am also one of the few (based on market share) Windows phone users. It certainly would be awesome if it were developed for WP, but I can completely understand why it would not be at this point.
