Suggestions to make Vivaldi better
-
Hi, Here are a couple of suggestions: - Give an option disable Speed Dial (on start-up) - Give an option to close tabs to the left or right (When closing a tab) - Give an option to disable close button - Give an option to open new tab by clicking on tab bar (empty space) - Give an option to disable scrollbars (horizontal and vertical) - Give an option to disable history
-
Some more stuff:
-
Open image in new tab –-> Do not open tab in background
-
Paste and Go should open in new tab
-
Make a separate entry for Bookmarks in menu bar
-
Give "one click" bookmark saving option via bookmark button (address-bar)
-
Active tab should be marked more clearly ("Light Interface Color" theme)
-
Keep page size and loaded images count visible in address-bar
-
-
This is specifically about the Bookmarks Manager:
-
Give an option to save all open tabs (via bookmarks manager)
-
Give an option to hide columns
-
Give an option to sort by name
-
Give an option to sort by creation date
-
Give an option to sort by nickname
-
Double-click on bookmark/favorite should open in new tab (in the foreground)
-
-
The option to disable the close button is there already.
-
Here are my additional suggestions:
1. Let us select the speed dial page column (3,4,5,6) and have them re-sized to smaller sizes like they used to in O
2. Allow us to turn off Auto Refreshing of web sites - Nothing is more annoying when you're in the middle of reading something!
3. Drag and Drop a web address into the Bookmarks Menu. That's all that comes to mind right now.

Yes! However, in addition to disable the Speed Dial during startup, an option to totally remove Speed Dial. At least in the new Opera (cough, cough) you can use the KonamiCode to hide it. The speed dial is one of the worst features ever added to any and all browsers; sort of like forced marketing.
Regardless, hopefully, as Vivaldi improves toward a formal release, many of the suggestions will be implemented.

Improve loading of web pages. Opera has a turbo feature. Vivaldi should have one as well.
Whenever a webpage loads, there is a hesitation before it loads completely. I notice this in the progress bar on top as it counts the data being loaded.
Also, CCleaner does not have Vivaldi listed as one of its designated browsers. How would one clean the entire browsing history, cookies, etc. like CCleaner would.? Have the people at CCleaner incorporate Vivaldi in their program.

Speed Dial is the best feature ever included in browsers.
Delete all entries and you get a blank page until it is a way to disable it for new tabs.Cheers, mib

Customize application for viewing source (and perhaps other protocol as well)
Vital feature to web developers. Currently, the source viewer in Vivaldi is limited to just viewing. -
Allow the download panel to be displayed in a tab or separate window so that it doesn't reduce the browser's viewable area.
-
Minimize memory usage. This will appeal to a wider range of users, especially those with a slow system.
-
Sound notification for finished download, loading failure, etc.
[/ol]
Good luck to team Vivaldi and may the phoenix rise from the ashes.

Definitely! The overall feel is very sluggish, especially when compared to other Chromium-based browsers.
- Re-ordering of extension buttons like in chrome.
Another good one. Why this was disabled is really quite confusing.

Two more that are on my wish list as well.
And a couple more from me…
[ol]- Have an option to configure the size of the cache that can be saved on your hard drive.
- Eliminate the HTTP:// that automatically appears in the dialog box when posting a URL on a forum. If not then at least highlight it like other Chromium-based browsers do, so when pasting a URL you don't end up with two HTTP://.
- Add an option to remove the previous version during an upgrade. I ended up with 4 old copies before I knew this was happening.

Resizable Speed dials and more columns.
-
-Bookmarks and extensions Syncronization
-Option to change Speed dial thumbnails (custom images). But I like the Opera solution too. That generic generalized speed dial label name thing. It's clean and nice. The thumb preview generalized from the webpage is ugly.

Yes, I agree, and I'd love to see that, but the real reason I just registered a forum account is:
-Option to change Speed dial thumbnails (custom images).
I want that sooooo bad. I rely on Speed Dial a lot and I really love customizing my experience so things look nice and smooth. Screen grabs of websites - Google Calendar for example - just don't make good, clean interface objects. I would so, so love to use an image file of my own.
Thank you!!

Compatibility with Aero on windows 7.
Even though most have already updated to windows 10, there are some of us who prefere to stick with seven. In my case I have to main reasons for it, one being to avoid all that annoying telemetry and such that it sends back to microsoft; and two I just plain and simple like the looks of seven a lot better.
Now the thing is, a lot of programs recently have just gone ahead and incorpotated the whatever-the-hell-they-call-it-now looks from Win10, which is fine… As long as you're using that version of Windows, because if you're not it'll look like crap. And it's the case Vivaldi.
I believe it would make many users very happy if Vivaldi's window would match the overall look of Win7 when installed on that system. I've attached a picture comparing side by side chrome and vivaldi on a Win7 machine, see for yourself how much better chrome looks by simply making use of aero.
Yes, I do know that there is an option to use the system's window, but even with it enabled we still don't have any transparency built into the tabs like we have on chrome or firefox.
I believe it'd be a simple addtion that would make the experience of Vivaldi a lot better for those, like me, still on seven. I absolutely loved everything about this browser and I'm excited to ditch chrome's simplicity forever as soon as this feature is added.

Just tried Vivaldi today and it's looking promising. It has a separate "search" field ! Excellent. It's the best Chrome browser after Avant - that's my permanent browser (although I actually use it with the Firefox engine).
Currently, Avant has a lot more functionality so you can look there for ideas. However, this is my instant list of functionality requests:
- Option to stop it asking me if I want it to save my password. I never will want that, as I use Roboform
- Automatically open a new tab - I know it works for favourites, but it needs to do it for each search too
- Avant allows r-click any tab and select "close all tabs to left" or "close all tabs to the right"
- Avant allows r-click on a favourite folder to open all sites in it (each in a different tab, of course)
- Avant allows r-click on a folder and create a new favourite in that folder
- Avant allows URL aliases to save selecting a favourite eg. "M" to open (Google) Maps, "YT" for …
- I'm not sure Roboform works perfectly with Vivaldi ... but thereagain, it's not perfect with Avant these days either (and getting worse) ... so getting Vivaldi / Roboform to work perfectly would be very positive
For me, there are too many things missing at the moment to use it as my main browser. I'll try it again some time in the future when hopefully it will be better

One thing I'd like is the ability to set the homepage (Home button) to speed dial - I use it like a hub for navigation. It doesn't have any kind of address to use to set it as the homepage afaik.

Can't argue with that…

Yup, I'm on win10 but always loved aero so I use "third-party" dwm engine (built on aero specifications, so not so "third") to have it again :silly:
But maybe should be an optional settings, so can be used also with dwm glass support injection if desired even in 8.x/10
