Solved "Please wait for Vivaldi to close" message showing up on startup
-
I got a mail notifiying me of the new reply in this topic. Just here to tell that my problem apparently has gone away, I've not seen this in a long time. I'm not sure what has happened to cause the problem to go away. I think it has spontaneously disappeared. I did upgrade my Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 at some point but I think the problem had already disappeared then.

@jjvdgeer Good for you
I have just seen the dialog fee minutes ago after a download -
I don't know if this may help: I have a bit of experience in software development on Windows platform. It seems a problem raising when Vivaldi has to request some kind of service from the underlying operating system (e.g. open a dialog, open a window,...) from a thread which is not the main thread handling the user interface. But I have not seen the code

@guidocardino said in Every day 'Please wait for Vivaldi to close':
The annoying dialog seems to appear randomly: opening new window, showing the system dialog asking the credential before showing the recorded passwords for the sites
Never seen that myself... For how long does that dialog appear?
@guidocardino said in Every day 'Please wait for Vivaldi to close':
I have zapped and re-created the profile (rename the profile directory and then copy some subdirectories to the newly created profile directory): the problem is still here
Could you try that again, but without copying those subdirectories (in a clean profile)?
-
Thank you, but unfortunately, din;t work either.
-
@raivata Do you use any security software (besides the standard Windows Defender) or any other software that interferes with other apps? The problems seem specific to your configuration, so without access to it, we can't tell for sure what's the root cause - you need to try eliminating each possibility, one by one.

I have to click 'Force startup' to go on. The completion bar continues to cycle.

A bit difficult - it's my installation for daily work.
But I will manage to test it.I am starting to think that this is in some way related to the fact that I have created some shotcuts ('open in a separate window'). In the following picture the highlighted icons are pwa's saved as shortcuts from Vivaldi. Often when I start one of them the dialog appears.
-
Created a new clean profile. I have activated only the sync so that to recover the saved passwords. Effectively, in the first work hours the dialog has NOT shown. I will use the new profile in the next days in order to confirm the resolution of the problem.
-
At the end the "clean profile, recover only the saved passwords via sync" solved the problem. Thanks for the support!

@jjvdgeer Reading this post again I just realised that we've moved to another VPN solution at some point so that might actually indicate that the VPN solution we used then may have been the cause then and since now using another solution (FortiClient) may have been a factor in the problem no longer appearing for me.

Same for me:
It randomly appears (often) after the last update.
A common use case (not the only one, unfortunately):
- save a web site (e.g. gmail) as a "shortcut" in the Windows toolbar (with the option to launch it in a separated window)
- start it, then click a link (e.g. a link inside a gmail message)
- the dialog shows up
- it displays indefinitely, must press "Force startup" to go on
I have already zapped my profile with no luck.
I have McAfee antivirus active, but as I remember I have tried to switch it off for a while with no changes.
Already tried the "Continue running background apps when Vivaldi is closed" trick.The same feeling as Raivata "Quite frustrated. I really like Vivaldi, but it's unbearable."

@guidocardino
Hi, I never saw this message since I use Vivaldi (5 Years) but I donΒ΄t use third party AV software.
Disable an anti virus software is sometimes not enough, we had many reports about especially after an update. AV software "think" Vivaldi is unknown and block or slowdown it.
Is there a kind of white list in McAfee?Cheers, mib

Trying to work with McAfee without real time protection... I will update the thread with the results.
-
@guidocardino Sometimes the "Please Wait" popup covers the close confirmation of Vivaldi browser. Move the "Please Wait" popup up and check if there is a confirmation popup to close Vivaldi.
-
Uninstalled McAfee some days ago
Up to now, the issue disappeared... -
This is happening to me on a brand new PC and my other two PCs in the house. Really annoying bug. Can someone from the Vivaldi team please take the issue seriously?

@latakiaislay
Hi, it seams your are the only user report it since 4 month it does not happen to all users.
Did you check the solutions from the other user in this thread?
May you can check with a guest profile, it exclude all settings and extensions.https://help.vivaldi.com/article/guest-view/
Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin thanks for the reply. Are you an employee of Vivaldi?
The solution mentioned of ""clean profile, recover only the saved passwords via sync" is not a solution, as I don't used Vivaldi sync for passwords. I use it for all of my bookmarks. Not only that, this is on two separate PCs, one being a brand new install so that is not the issue.
This is an issue with a PWA being enabled in my opinion, yet no other browser suffers from this issue when I install it. Chrome, Edge ect all work fine with PWAs. If I disable PWAs, then the issue goes away, which is not an acceptable solution
-
@latakiaislay I'm using PWA's in Vivaldi and I've never seen this message on my PC. Please post the exact reproduction steps - what are you doing (step-by-step), what is the expected behaviour, and what happens instead. Don't forget to include your Vivaldi version & OS information. Thank you!

what I've noticed so far is it happens when Im using a created "shortcut" on certain sites like google docs, reddit, or twitter
