Mod Collections

This topic aims to highlight actively maintained modifications. Use it to your advantage to discover new and old projects provided to the community by dedicated individuals.
Community
Writing modifications is work and it’s even harder keeping them up to date. The forum board may be crowded with dysfunctional code, but no one can expect us to keep every mod alive forever. That being said, maintained code deserves a spotlight.
Contribute
Do you consider writing modifications or are you already a pro modder? Great! Start collecting your existing modifications.
-
Manage your code with git and host it (GitHub, GitLab, Codeberg, sourcehut, etc.). Make sure to provide backlinks to forum topics in your code and point out active and maintained modifications (e.g. in the README).
-
Don’t like git? No problem. Simply create your own index topic on the modifications forum board and collect links to your actively maintained modifications right here on Vivaldi Forum.
Share a link to your collection and I will make sure to include it in this post.
Tips
We retain the ability to tag our topics. Currently following tags are available:
modding javascript guide css archived
. Add appropriate tags when creating a topic and add thearchived
tag when you no longer want to maintain the modification, or you are unsure whether the code works, or Vivaldi has introduced changes which deprecated your solution. At this point you should remove the modification from your collection of maintained modifications. This last point is very important, because users who are utilizing this index of mod collections shouldn’t be exposed to broken code.⁂
So far so good for this first outline of an index of mod collections. Of course there are no links here yet, someone has to contribute first… I’m happy to answer any questions concerning the setup of this collection, suggestions are welcome.

I’ll start by giving an example.
https://github.com/luetage/vivaldi_modding
Maintained mods are listed in the README and are accessible through links. Backlinks to forum topics are present at the top of each mod.
Omitting git I would create a topic.
- Title: My index of modifications
- Content: Here I present actively maintained modifications
- Modifications: List of links (maybe with short description)
And then post a link to the topic as reply here. Such a topic could also serve as a casual place to get in contact with you.
You don’t need to have a backlog of dozens of mods to start contributing. One mod with a single line of CSS is enough to get featured here, as long as it’s maintained and working.

@guigirl Except that I don't even speak Mod, so...
-
@guigirl I also haven't ever modded Vivaldi, maybe it's about time to try it out? Perhaps if I find something that is appealing to me? This thread could help in this regard.
@luetage, if you manage to gather some interesting mods here, we can pin this thread to the top of the category. Just let us know.

@pafflick said in Mod Collections:
if you manage to gather some interesting mods here
so are you saying that you & Ayespy aren’t interesting?
btw., it seems like the actual ‘content’ will get lost here. can you add a spec so it’s easily searchable, @luetage? e.g. every such post should contain a heading like modh collhecthion (misspelled on purpose so this doesn’t match the search string. but anyway it should be something one wouldn’t use other than for the heading, & i can see how those two words are gonna be used quite often)

@potmeklecbohdan If I understand you correctly, I would think the topic titles do not matter. They all will be linked from this post, which constitutes the main index. The point of this approach is that people don’t have to use the search feature anymore, they can go from link to link until they end up on a specific modification page with a working mod ready to implement.
The main index itself will show the usernames of the modders and for each present the link to the personal index/collection.

@luetage i mean,… look, we’re just talking here & the only post with a link to a collection is yours. if we keep chatting, it’ll get harder to find any further (potential) posts that link to something. so it’d be useful if someone wanting to see only the links could just
ctrl-f
, enter the specified text, click the links, go to next page & so on. -
@potmeklecbohdan No, the whole index will go into the first post. You register your personal collection by posting the link, that’s all. I just haven’t input mine yet, I will do so when a second person has a collection ready to share.
-
@luetage gotcha. that’s the bit i was missing.
