Vivaldi 4.2 RC 2 – Vivaldi Desktop Browser snapshot 2406.40/42
-
The issue appears inconsistently for me, on Windows and Linux, and it was definitely introduced between 4.1 and 4.2. At first I assumed it was rare enough for the report to end up as 'unreproducible' and never be fixed, but seeing how often it happens made me confident enough to report it.
4 out of 10 pics turn out bugged.
Reported as VB-82899: [Capture] Capture button is captured when capturing selectionIn a fresh profile:
- Click the capture button.
- Click capture.
- Select a portion of the page, then click the capture button.
- Repeat at least 10 times.
Expected behaviour:
Capture button should not be visible in any captured photos.Actual behaviour:
Capture button is visible in 4 out of 10 photos. Tested on Windows and Linux. [Picture above provided.] -
@infosrefanvlad I wanted to say i couldn’t reproduce that, but then i tried internal pages (before i was trying only the forum), where it happens almost always.
Fwiw,
- i’ve done it in my usual profile
- i have
alt-s
bound to capture area to clipboard (& used that) - specifically, i tried
vivaldi://welcome
& the settings - i stored the captures with this running in the background (
~/data/img/vsel/
already existed)wl-paste --type=image/png --watch sh -c 'cat > "$HOME/data/img/vsel/$(date '\''+%Y%m%d-%H%M%S-%N'\'').png"'

IDK, for me it happens just as often on webpages. The more you test it... But again, I understand why not everyone is willing to take 50+ captures like I did, I even appreciate that someone else tried to test it in the first place (and probably won't be able to thank the devs enough for fixing it when they do, it's been bugging me a lot).
< This is my second try. -
Another very awkard glitch. Half of the times, when you open a new tab, the SD background become the previous tab and both the dial tab and the previous tab are focused. Would be quite fun excluding the fact we are on RC2 (seen on RC1 too)
-
@hadden89 Easter egg! Oh wait, what’s the date today?
-
@potmeklecbohdan Is actually happening here, no or involved.
But maybe is only another my CNR issue. Who knows
Need further testing, but as it may be caused by snapshots cherry picking - mostly RC to RC - I should consider to go back to stables -

Yes, i confirm on my internal 4.3 Daily the Cpanel favicon is shown.
Tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock
Time for a 4.3 snapshot?
-
Not sure why, but upon opening this URL, I am redirected to google.com:

@kocho Strange issue. Also happens in Chromium, but not in Chrome or Firefox. Please open a new topic on this for investigation, this is a Snapshot release thread, Stable is out.
-
@kocho The site has some strange redirects to tracking by snapchat.

[BUG?] Reading mode is not available in Private windows
Is it a feature or a bug? Reading mode is missing in private windows.
Try this:start "vivaldi https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/tabs/tab-stacks/"
start "vivaldi --incognito https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/tabs/tab-stacks/"You'll see that the private window doesn't have the "reading mode" button in the address bar.
-
Why are you all posting for a older version?
Vivaldi Stable is now final not RC, see 4.2.2406.44
-
@doctorg Stable is a myth.
(& why report a bug for Stable if you only have Snapshot?)

I report issues for my 4.2 Stable and 4.3 Snapshots.
You are never forced to report issues. Why? Browsers are never bug-free
PS: Vivaldi & Arch? Ouch. Vivaldi is a little troublemaker with Arch distries. OK, i am a Manjaro novice and know the herecura repo might have some patches now (had not checked).
-
@doctorg I’ve never had any issues on my Manjaro and Artix regarding that. Stable is in the
community
repo & Snapshot inherecura
(see link in my sig), you can fork the PKGBUILDs for Soprano if you see the need. What trouble do you have?Oh, you’re on Manjaro & Stable is already in
community
(i.e. (semi-)official repo which is handled by Manjaro too). You’ll get delayed updates. -

OK, i am a Manjaro novice
Then this would be appropriate for you
Or short version for the advanced like you:
https://manjaro.org/branch-compare/ **
https://repo.manjaro.org
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/?O=0&SeB=nd&K=vivaldi-snapshot&outdated=&SB=n&SO=a&PP=50&do_Search=Go
https://archlinux.org/packages/?sort=&q=vivaldi&maintainer=&flagged=
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Arch_User_Repository
** there's alsomanjaro-check-repos
package in Manjaro's repo to do so + against the Arch repo from the terminal, an example:[npro@vu ~]$ mbn info vivaldi --stable --quiet Branch : stable Name : vivaldi Version : 4.2.2406.44-1.1 Repository : community Build Date : Wed 15 Sep 2021 17:14:27 Packager : Mark Wagie <[email protected]> Archlinux : 4.2.2406.44-1
Btw, Vivaldi 4.2.x44 was (almost) instantly available in the Stable branch
P.S. the way I quickly update snapshots for testing:
sed/nano
the PKGBUILD stored locally with the latest version #
makepkg -si PKGBUILD --skipchecksums
-
J have Vivaldi 4.2.2406.25 (Official Build) (32-bit)
Getting an error when trying to check for updates;
"viv requires win 7 or higher error???? "
I am using win 7 32bit sp1; wt*? -
@geardoc47 Try this installer for your Snapshot https://downloads.vivaldi.com/snapshot/Vivaldi.4.2.2406.40.exe
-
@doctorg My cause update:
I skipped 2406.30/33 & received the win7 error
Installed 2406.30/33 OK , then 2406.40/42 installed OK.
solved (??) -
I'm not sure if this is a new or old issue, but I've recently started using Vivaldi more frequently so I've been hitting it more often.
Whenever I open a new tab, I apparently type too quickly and Vivaldi eats some number of keystrokes.
Steps to reproduce:
- ctrl-t
- Type anything quickly
For instance, I type ctrl-t and immediately follow it with
help
. I getlp
in the address bar. I would expecthelp
to be what's in the address bar.
