HW acceleration switch NEEDS to be available in Vivaldi's settings
-
Right now to turn HW acceleration on/off you need to go through here: vivaldi://chrome/settings/search#hardware I think this is a pretty important setting to have since it is enabled by default and turning it off made Vivaldi usable again for me. With HW ON I had a lot of problems in terms of snappiness of the general UI. Everything was very sluggish and too slow to respond to commands (e.g. opening a new speed dial page). With HW acceleration OFF everything seems to be much much better now. Evidently HW accel is not ready for prime time yet. Anyone else had a similar experience?

Yes, I wrote a bug report asking for a setting for hardware acceleration.
Do you know if this is a Chromium problem or just a Vivaldi problem?

Seems like a Vivaldi problem. I have no problems with Chrome although hardware acceleration is enabled (by default as well).
