Conflic between Chromium Browser and Vivaldi browser
-
Operating system : Windows 10 64bit (possible it also happens on windows 8x, but i did not try it there) Vivaldi: TP4.1.0.219.50.x64 This applies to Chromium Browser (not the Chrome browser) Situation 1: - install vivaldi first - install chromium second Click vivaldi icon on desktop -> vivaldi starts [ok] Click chromium icon on desktop -> chromium starts [ok] But Click vivaldi icon startmen-> vivaldi starts [ok] Click chomium icon from startmenu -> vivaldi starts (trying to download file://somepath/chromium.exe [NOT OK] Situation 2: - install chromium first - install vivaldi second Click vivaldi icon on desktop -> vivaldi starts [ok] Click chromium icon on desktop -> chromium starts [ok] But Click vivaldi icon startmen-> chromium start (trying to download fine://somepath/vivaldi.exe [NOT OK] Click chomium icon from startmenu -> chromium start [ok] I tried repinning vivaldi and chromiun to start menu, but problem remains I double checked filelocations of vivaldi and chromium in start menu and there point to the correct executable Some extracts from the registry Chrome->.exe->shell->open->command->DelegateExcute={5C65F4B0-3651-4514-B207-D10CB699B14B} Chromium->.exe->shell->open->command->DelegateExcute={A2DF06F9-A21A-44A8-8A99-8B9C84F29160} Vivaldi->.exe->shell->open->command->DelegateExcute={A2DF06F9-A21A-44A8-8A99-8B9C84F29160} As vivaldi is based on the chrome/chromium backend it looks like there is some conflict between them (using the same register ID's) And it also seems that the startmenu of windows 10 uses these identical keys to start the requested application. This applies to opensource Chromium Browser (not the Chrome browser) Situation 1: - install vivaldi first - install chromium second Click vivaldi icon on desktop -> vivaldi starts [ok] Click chromium icon on desktop -> chromium starts [ok] But Click vivaldi icon startmenu-> vivaldi starts [ok] Click chromium icon from startmenu -> vivaldi starts (trying to download file://somepath/chromium.exe [NOT OK] Situation 2: - install chromium first - install vivaldi second Click vivaldi icon on desktop -> vivaldi starts [ok] Click chromium icon on desktop -> chromium starts [ok] But Click vivaldi icon startmenu-> chromium start (trying to download fine://somepath/vivaldi.exe [NOT OK] Click chromium icon from startmenu -> chromium start [ok] I tried re-pinning vivaldi and chromiun to start menu, but problem remains I double checked filelocations of vivaldi and chromium in start menu items and they point to the correct executable Some extracts from the registry Chrome->.exe->shell->open->command->DelegateExcute={5C65F4B0-3651-4514-B207-D10CB699B14B} Chromium->.exe->shell->open->command->DelegateExcute={A2DF06F9-A21A-44A8-8A99-8B9C84F29160} Vivaldi->.exe->shell->open->command->DelegateExcute={A2DF06F9-A21A-44A8-8A99-8B9C84F29160} As vivaldi is based on the chromium backend it looks like there is some conflict between them (using the same register ID's) And it also seems that the startmenu of windows 10 uses these identical keys to start the requested application.

Thanks for the report, I've forwarded this to our installer guy.

Reminds me of this thread. OP had Torch and Vivaldi installed in Win8. Clicking the Torch shortcut would launch Vivaldi. Torch is a Chromium browser. That thread might have helpful information for you.

The same problem occurs when you think you're clever and install both the 32 and 64-bit versions of Vivaldi…
-
Has this problem been resolved? I came across it when the early betas came out and haven't revisited Vivaldi since, but I'd like to try it again.

I don't mind to have Chromium installed, but I haven't heard anything about such problem lately.
Anyway you can even use vivaldi not launching the installer at all.
Just unpack the installer somewhere with 7zip and click on the vivaldi.exe inside that folder.

Thanks, that worked to an extent (after a while my desktop shortcut stopped working with a "Class Not Found" error (or similar).
So I looked at the installer again, went into Advanced and found there was a "Standalone" option. I've installed it that way, and I can report both Chromium and Vivaldi are playing nicely. Win!
Thanks for your help.
