Vivaldi 4.0: Vivaldi Translate and betas of Vivaldi Mail, Calendar and Feed Reader are here
-
@pepkin88 It’s not random afaik, it’s in your first window. You can transfer the tabs from the window you would like to have the email client in to the window with the email client and vice versa.
-
@pesala Hi, yes I agree. But after that initial I saw even more changes than that annoying icon so wrote it in a more general way; that new features should but hidden and/or 100% configurable...
Re your answers:
-
Good. But how do one disable translation then? Going to a non english page the "translate"-feature icon shows = resources used to identify that accept-lang vs site lang differs; which indicates some resources are used for no purpose at all.
-
OK, so autoupdate fails to show such a welcome walk-through. Have not seen anything like that...
-
Again; translation is not configurable 100%. Since the icon shows acording to 1. Which is sort of my point...
-
Autoupdate is not showing anything on Mac. And installs automatically, without any prompting or so, upon next restart. Which is why autoupdate on mac atleast is annoying; just because I restart my browser the experience changes all of sudden... With a different UI etc that I have to dive into. So I DO prefer not to get ANY features enabled unless I ask for it.
-
-
@ecoanders Hehe, maybe one configurable feature could be "do not autoenable new features"... So even if someone personally thinks "translation...makes sense..aware", such features remain hidden/disabled when this feature is checked.
-
@ecoanders said in Vivaldi 4.0: Vivaldi Translate and betas of Vivaldi Mail, Calendar and Feed Reader are here:
autoupdate fails
It doesn't. There's no welcome walk-through after an update, only a «What's new?» page. But you can take a look at
vivaldi://welcome
.Translations
is enabled in all three options, so I'm not sure it would have been useful to you anyway. -
Very high CPU utilisation with several tabs opened (Asus Vivobook i5-1035G), up to 80%.
On desktop i9-9900 works well

Absolutely wonderful!!

Hello.. Haven't downloaded this new version yet, but I'm curious... Can I translate single words on a page with this new translate feature, or it always just translates the whole page?
-
@luetage: Currently I have 7 windows, and the mail client attached to the 4th one. After a restart, it attached to the 7th one. After another, to the 1st one. I don't see a pattern, looks pretty random to me.
Thanks for your suggestion, but it is not a good solution for me. I already know, that I can move other cards around. Every window of mine and cards in it has its own theme. Ideally I could use the mail and RSS client on any window, just like I could on Opera 12.Sadly, I'm afraid I'd have to wait until this issue gets resolved. This limitation seems to be only for the mail and RSS, not for calendar or any other type of a card.
With the feature working like this, I find my Opera Mail more reliable and useful. It opens links in my most recently focused Vivaldi window (so I have a control over it) and it sits in place on my taskbar, I know exactly where to find it, and doesn't jump around every restart. -
@pepkin88 Hmm, I haven’t read about the intent to make this work in all windows, it’s this way on purpose. But you could write a feature request for attaching it to a different window.

Hello, can you (on Android):
-
add sorting of bookmarks by date ascending and descending? in my old "Boat Browser" when I added a bookmark then it was placed at the top of the list, its avoids scrolling to find a recent bookmark
-
add another grid for Speed Dials: less padding = larger favicons and more text
-
put the "refresh" and "add in bookmarks" buttons directly next to the URL = it avoids going through the menu and clicking x2
-
add an import / export option for bookmarks via html and cvs file
-
make it possible to choose the download folder
(Sorry for my English)

Since it is Beta for the mail client, I tested it and found some issues:
-
I tried importing mail from Opera Mail, using tips from that thread https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/58193/importing-from-m2/12 . I managed to start the import process, it showed me 1 hour remaining, but after importing 10650 emails it stopped and never resumed. I had to delete those imported accounts. Also, the information about seen (not read) emails was not imported.
-
This time I tried simply adding a new profile, connecting it to Gmail with OAuth. It worked. But some email threads are split, sometimes in many places. Most of the time my own replies were causing the splitting, but not always. In Opera Mail they were correctly seen as continuous threads, same in Gmail. I checked the Message-ID and In-Reply-To headers, they seemed fine, the emails should be connected, but they are not.
Apart from that, I also noticed that the Edit feature is buggy on this site. It puts the message into a textarea, but only up until the first occurrence of a double new-line (like this empty line above).

@pepkin88: More thoughts:
-
I can't see an option, to show emails without the theme styling, I only saw one for the email editor. I use a dark theme, but some emails are badly displayed because of it, most people assume a white background when composing an email.
-
I can't find an option to allow external images from every sender by default. I had this on Opera Mail and would like to use it here as well.
-
The email panel provides poor UX when it is floating. Consider changing its floatiness over the mail tab or integrating the panel into the mail tab.
-
Mail tabs should respect user's tab stack settings. I clicked Reply and it created a new tab stack, instead of using the current, like other tabs do.
-
-
While the mail manager is quite interesting, I am a bit disappointed with the Rss Feeder which is still attached to its mail origins. I think that the usefulness of a Rss Feeder is missing a lot with this fast and a bit outdated, boring, monotonous, heavy, boring solution, absolutely not really adapted to a modern, daily, fast use as we could expect from Vivaldi. Today this technical solution should be understood as a solution to manage information flows: please have a look to this suggestion for a more detailed explanation: A generalized and more user-centered feed; data streams monitoring (mail, html differences, rss feed)

License?
-
@kingu What?
-
@eggcorn
Wondering what the license for the new apps is. -
@kingu What new apps? The e-mail client and calendar and all?
-

Agreed. Should be on the list I'd hope. See also

@kingu They are not apps, actually, but browser features. They are built into the browser, are part of the browser, and as such fall under the licensing of the browser.
-
@ayespy Strictly speaking, the e-mail client is not part of the browser. Browsers view webpages, e-mail clients view e-mails. So, the browser and the e-mail client (along with the RSS reader and calendar) are parts of Vivaldi, which is now an internet suite and not just a browser.
But your point stands. It's all part of Vivaldi, and all under that Vivaldi license.
