Vivaldi install after Ubuntu 21.04 install
-
I upgraded an Ubuntu laptop to Hirsute Hippo without realising Vivaldi wasn't installed, the old Vivaldi installation instructions now FAIL, because apt-key add is now deprecated to prevent installation of signing keys in the normal key repositories.
Fixing this requires a few [manual] steps.
Create a new directory using sudo mkdir /usr/share/local/keyrings
Get the signing key and run through gpg to remove the ASCII armor using wget -qO- https://repo.vivaldi.com/archive/linux_signing_key.pub | gpg --dearmor | sudo dd of=/usr/local/share/keyrings/vivaldi-archive-keyring.gpgThen create a sources file in /etc/apt/sources.list.d, I used vivaldi.sources as the filename, sudo vi /etc/apt/sources.list.d/vivaldi.sources
The file needs to contain
Types: deb
URIs: https://repo.vivaldi.com/archive/deb/
Suites: stable
Components: main
Signed-By: /usr/local/share/keyrings/vivaldi-archive-keyring.gpgThen create a preferences file - sudo vi /etc/apt/preferences.d/vivaldi.pref, containing
Package: *
Pin: origin repo.vivaldi.com
Pin-Priority: 1Then run sudo apt update and then sudo apt install vivaldi-stable.
Throws a few warnings but it now installs without complaining. -
Hi @high88 Thank you for sharing this pb and the solution.
It seems to me Vivaldi was on Snap, ppa Ubuntu... it is no more the case ?
Thank you for your feedback.
I will try to use your procedure with the vivaldi repo.
thank you again, jrd10.
