Unable to launch
-
Hi, I'm unable to launch vivaldi on my desktop (windows 10, 64 bits). Installer runs smoothly, but nothing happens then. Well, not quite nothing : vivaldi is running in the background, but does not display (no window, no icon neither on taskbar, nor on systray) I tried the official beta version, and then the latest build I found on the blog:same result. Kill those background processes and then try again. What version of windows are you on? I have never seen this problem, but something similar has been reported.
Oops, I see you are on win10 64 (as am I). Are you running the 32-bit or the 64-bit version of Vivaldi? Only the former is recommended.
ALSO - you may want to go to https://vivaldi.net/ and install the very LATEST snapshot, as we are now several versions beyond 344.
-
I tried 32, 64 and latest snapshot too…
I also tried to kill the process, I tried to uninstall then delete user files in app data, and reinstall, I tried compatibility mode..
well all I could think about, but nothing did it.. vivaldi is there, running in the background, but invisible :S -
3rd party security software has been seen to cause problems like this. Literally hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of copies are running on Win10 without this symptom. It may be difficult for the developers to replicate and solve.
-
I may try to disable windows defender ( don't use any other security software). I let you know
-
There's no record of Windows defender blocking Vivaldi - only 3rd party software.

since I don't use any 3rd party security software, then "the truth is elsewhere", but there's nothing I can think about (nothing "exotic" here : asus motherboard, intel chipset, graphic chipset, genuine windows 10)

Try re-installing Vivaldi to a different-named folder than that prompted by the installation panel. It may be importing something corrupt from either an extension or your user profile left from an earlier install.

There's another issue that's been seen in Win7, that I'm not sure applies in Win10 - and that is that the browser opens, but the UI is positioned off-screen. Supposedly (and I have no Win7 installs at this time, so I can't test it) you can move the UI back into the screen using the taskbar context menu. I don't fully understand this, but I have seen mention of it. Maybe someone looking at this topic knows the whole skinny.
Edit: Did some research and found this: Looks like you can either right-click taskbar and cascade windows or alt-tab to the relevant window, and (in Win7) right-click it on the taskbar to select "Move" or (in Win 8-10 shift+right-click on it on the taskbar to get the "Move" context menu item and move it. See the article:

I've found the same thing… unfortunately, I couldn't find any vivaldi UI anywhere using alt-tab, cascade etc.....
as I wrote above, I also removed vivaldi folder in appdata prior to reinstall vivaldi

some news :
I was unable to launch the gimp which got stuck loading fonts
therefore I decided to take a further look into this :
windows event viewer shows an error with vivaldi unable to open dejavu fontedit : replacing dejavu fonts did it : vivaldi works now !
-
@Gwen-Dragon:
You mean, your font DejaVu was broken? Which one?
Did you try latest font package from http://sourceforge.net/projects/dejavu/files/dejavu/2.35/dejavu-fonts-ttf-2.35.zip
yes, and yes ! the culprit was : DejaVuSansCondensed-Oblique.ttf

@panGalacticGargleBlaster:
Performed a complete uninstall of Vivaldi.
Reinstalled v1.0.365.3 32-bit today (1/18/16)
Program launched and is running. No additional changes to machine.Was there a global fix pushed? Or is the concensus, at this point, that this was attributed to local isolated instances of corruption?
The latter. Vivaldi has pushed nothing since the original release of 1.0.365.3.
