@pesala I saw that, but I’ve seen other users advertise their personal websites in their profiles, or even in their signatures.
-
@code3 User is banned because they posted commercial spam.
-
@code3 , I hope I am not banned for promoting non-Vivaldi related services on my blog, or for using a non-Vivaldi page to post Vivaldi links.
-
@catweazle It's not the same thing. When you sail into the Vivaldi Forum, posting maybe one or two fig leaf posts (or none) and then posting one or more posts that contains a link trying to sell something, you are a spammer. That gets you banned.
If you are, and have been, a contributing member and happen to include a link in a post that MAY benefit some seller of something and does not benefit you, the maximum backlash you will experience is some mod or community manager asking you to remove a marketing link. (Or, no one may mention it to you at all).
Our standards exist to preserve the Forum as a venue for discussion, not a market full of stalls hawking various wares.
-
@ayespy Ok. I thought they just had it in their profile. So they posted a welcome post, then posted spam, and then you banned them? It would be nice to have an explanation of the ban on a banned user's profile page.
-
@code3 My illustration was not meant to explain the circumstances of this user. It was only to explain banning policy in part. You can't assume this user did some specific thing.
An explanation is sent to the user why they are banned. They have the opportunity to contest it. So far, to my knowledge, no one has, because they know going in that the only purpose for their gaining access to forums anywhere is to disseminate spam. But it's really only the user's business why we banned them. It's not for broad public consumption.

@ayespy , well, I am clear about what a spammer is, myself I've already reported some on this forum
Certainly there are a whole series of online services and applications on my blog which have nothing to do with Vivaldi, but with the strict limitation that they are free and of a good quality, there is no commercial interest, simply the desire to share good things I found and may serve a others. -
@catweazle You are not here to try to sell stuff to people who never asked, or to attract clicks to infected sites. End of story.
