All 3 Reader View options have disappeared on pages that support Reader View
-
This has been asked before: Vivaldi does not display ANY READER VIEW.
On pages that support Reader View:
Reader View icon is NOT in top right corner.
Reader View is not listed in Page Actions toggle at bottom of screen.
Reader View shortcut SHF R IS ENABLED BUT STOPPED WORKING THIS WEEK.
Please advise what has blocked all 3 Reader View options and how to restore. Thanks -
@vcomm Reader View is not displayed in Page Actions here, either, but reader view is working fine, e.g. on my Vivaldi Review Page
Which version of Vivaldi are you using?
-
@Pesala Vivaldi 3.8.2259.37 (Stable channel) (x86_64)
Revision 969a5dcecc42e57accf29e2ad0e97114bb534b98 -
@vcomm Maybe it is only a MacOS issue? It works fine here on Stable and Snapshot.
-
@Pesala this is the mac side of the forum right?
-
@vcomm Yes, but that does not mean that the issue is inevitably platform related.
Try in a private window or a guest profile.
-
@Pesala none of the 3 reader view options appear in private mode either on the page you attached or on my pages that had always supported reader view. Is there a setting that is conflicting? Also for a newbie to CSS, where exactly is the sticky thread inserted? thanks!

Looks like 3.8 has changed things. I've rarely seen the address bar "Reader" icon (in Windows) for months, but I could always trust the Page Actions menu to show the "Reader View" option.
Now the address bar "Reader" icon is back, at least on some pages, but the Page Actions menu never shows it.
The option used to be in Page Actions even when choosing it couldn't change the current page.

@Pesala no reader view in private mode
-
@Pesala
@LorenAmelang has pointed that Vivaldi has changed things and they are having similar problems with disappearing reader view. It's clear that starting place to troubleshoot is to Vivaldi devs. Who are the responsible parties to whom this should be addressed? thanks, -
@vcomm have current version
thanks @Gwen-Dragon have submitted Bug Report on site as indicated -
@Gwen-Dragon I kind of suspect the change I see is a fix, not a new bug. If there is a Reader icon in the Address
Bar when it can work, who needs the Page Actions item?The http://www.softerviews.org/vivaldi.html page now works for me in Reader View even in a private window.
Vivaldi 3.8.2259.37 (Stable channel) (64-bit)

@lorenamelang I submitted the Bug Report and they came back advising they are aware of the problem and working on a fix. I hope it's soon, this is a must-have feature
-
@pesala this has been submitted on Bug Report at least twice. they replied they know it's an issue. Seems odd that at least reader view hasn't been restored yet. Getting concerned about privacy features dropping away now.
-
@vcomm its been updated yes? 3.8.2259.42 (Stable channel) (x86_64)
-
@vcomm Its been over a month. Multiple bug reports have been submitted to Dev to restore at least one of 3 Reader Views that all went missing. They replied at the time bug was reported but no word since.
Reader View is huge! Taking away all 3 reader views makes no sense, and the lack of communication does not inspire confidence.
When is reader view coming back. Safari has a fake incognito reader view, Apple actually logs reader view sites. It's time to take a stand against monitoring and surveillance of users. -
@vcomm , Reader View has certainly disappeared in the Page Actions Menu, but it appears in the AdressBar on the pages that support it, apart from also working with a hotkey that you can configure in the settings.
-
@catweazle thank you but how do I get address bar to look like yours with a reader view icon? mine only shows the new rss feed icon? No reader view icon display for pages that DO support reader view in Safari for ex.
-
@vcomm , I haven't done anything special, it always appeared for me, when the page supports it, I don't know why it doesn't on yours. Anyway try it with the hotkey, if you can activate it, for example on Wikipedia it should work there.

Until it's fixed there is a workaround: refresh the page and if available the reader view icon will appear in the address bar. That suggests that after loading a page, something detects reader view is a possibility, sets a flag variable, but then later code/script fails to act on the flag (or maybe that code/script occurs before the test!) Anyway, refreshing the page reads the already-set flag.
If you really like reader view then load all pages twice!
