Snapshot 1.0.340.7 - Silent Tabs For Users, Netflix support and HTML5 notifications
-
Hi y'all, Today's snapshot introduces a new feature, something we internally call “Silent Tabs For Users”—an easy way to kill annoying sounds in the browser. We also added Netflix support, HTML5 notifications and of course fixed a bunch of bugs. https://vivaldi.net/en-US/teamblog/70-snapshot-1-0-340-7-silent-tabs-for-users-netflix-support-and-html5-notifications //Christian - Vivaldi Technologies

At the risk of being told to STFU, I think you should not name the Mute Tab feature in that way. The name is obviously contrived from a well know Internet slang acronym.
It is a useful feature that is wanted by a good number of users, but the use of that kind of language is unprofessional and inappropriate for use on public media outlets that might be reviewing your browser.
-
The Vivaldi the composer once said something very similar to STFU but I agree with Pesala, it's not right for Vivaldi the browser.
Seriously. Put down the lighter and pull your pants back up.

Oh, I dunno.
Humor stimulates the intellect and fires up the logical pathways. It's a proven fact. There is a very good reason why "wit" and "humor" are synonymous. Per P.J. O'Rourke, "Seriousness is stupidity sent to college."
Factually, being too "serious" actually does slow the wit and make one dumber, and vice-versa. Stupid people have no sense of humor.
Let the devs have their fun. It's doing no real harm. You KNOW they were coding faster and being more productive while laughing. It's the things we can't laugh at that kill us, however slowly.

Humo(u)r is very important, just don't get carried away.
How could anyone ever forget the Haventree Attack Shark and EasyFlow Software?
https://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~mbarrien/jokes/softman.txtPerhaps a little too subtle would be the reference to alt.2600 in the final public release versions of MS Windows 2K/XP: 5.0.2600 / 5.1.2600.

Well, laughter is rejection. And people should not conflate humor with laughter, necessarily. Actual laughter at humor is a detection and rejection of the mere illogic or incongruous character of its contents.
On the other hand, the very stupid laugh at violence, insults, and pain or harm to others. That is not humor. That's an effort to minimize or separate one's self from the pain of, or responsibility for, what one just witnessed.
And there are gradients of everything. I don't find the Easyflow License Agreement funny, because it goes beyond mere incongruity and well into the "we have so little respect for your intelligence that we are going to make the incongruity of these statements too extreme, caustic and obvious to be missed" territory. The harder humor tries, the stupider it is.
-
I don't think most users will even notice.
And I'm tired of the concept of "unprofessional". People need to stop worrying about such trivial things. It would be nice if we could just enjoy life instead of having to worry about people looking for new and innovative ways of being offended.
-
That's true, most users won't notice unprofessionalism, especially if you hide the inside jokes inside like, uhm, a Volkswagon engine controller. C'mon, that was hilarious but it wasn't nearly as funny when they had to explain it.
Then there are the obligatory 'offense thieves' that thrive on taking offense, especially if it's not their own. Personally I'm not worried about it in the least: not my money; not my company.
