Drag and drop Windows 10 {fails as Administrator}
-
Hi,
I noticed the drag and drop does not work anymore for me on a lot of different websites.
I tried with Chrome and it works fine.
By drag and drop, I mean adding a PDF file on Gmail for example; or a CV on a website.
-
Well, as I said it used to work fine on Vivaldi; but now it works only with other browsers.
As for the CV on a website (like Monster and so on), here is an example of CV uploading by drag and drop: https://www.expectra.fr/emploi/deposer-mon-cv/

@C2A No problem with drag & drop a PDF on that site.
Please go through the troubleshooting steps:

@Pathduck Hi, thank you but I tried all the solutions on your link and it still does not work.
This is really weird because it used to work fine so far and with Chrome I do not have any issue of this type.
-
@C2A So you tried this in a clean profile and it still didn't work?
Did you try disabling any anti-virus for the test?
The site has a limit of 2MB for uploads, make sure your file is not larger.
Try this site:
https://www.dropzonejs.comOr this:
https://wormhole.appAlso try:
- Open a clean Vivaldi profile
- Open the French emploi site
- Press F12 to open Devtools
- Click on the Network tab on the top of the Devtools window that appears
- Try to drag+drop the PDF
- Note any red error/blocked messages, do you see many?
The actual PDF upload will happen in a POST request to
https://www.expectra.fr/emploi/deposer-mon-cv/mes-informations/
and the Form Data will contain a file in binary format. -
@Pathduck Hi, thanks for your help.
Actually I found out what was wrong and it is really a stupid thing!
I recently set the Vivaldi shortcut as "run as Administrator" and that is why the drag and drop stopped working!
I cancelled it and now everything is working fine, again.
-
@C2A Good
Never listen to anyone telling you to start a program as Administrator, it will only cause problems. If a well-written program needs administrator privileges it will ask for it.
-
@Pathduck You are absolutely right! It was silly because I thought it would work better but this drag and drop problem proved it does not, haha.
-
@C2A Just to test I tried launching Vivaldi as Administrator and I could see the issue. No idea why, probably some kind of Windows permission issue with different privileges. For instance if your user is not Admin and your're trying to "move" a file into another process' space that runs as Admin.
So run V as regular user and you will be fine
-
@Pathduck Absolutely! I would not be surprised if it is linked to Windows; since Microsoft always gives us surprising bugs haha
-
@Gwen-Dragon I totally agree with you!
I tried that when I could not update Vivaldi for a mysterious reason recently.
I solved this other problem by terminating the Vivaldi update notifier process in the Process manager but forgot to disable the "run as Administrator" feature.
