Tab stacking style
-
Hello, first i want to thanks again, for the nice work, you are doing. Vivaldi is already my main web browser despite being "only" in beta(quotes, because even in beta its more pleasant, than many other "more mature" browsers. But i would like to ask, would it be possible to change, or at least make it possible with some option - to make tab-stacking works exactly like in old Opera? I must say this was the best tab-stacking UI ive seen(including many addons for ff). I really miss the small arrow, that "[un]fold" stacked tabs. I think it was much more usable, because in unfolded state the tabs(well, at least the page name and icon) were actually visible even without mouse hovering over the one main tab. Also the whole feeling was like more consistent with other situations, where you need, to show/hide some "grouped" informations. For example when you fold or unfold code, or expand some menu items or something like that.

There is a lot more work that will still be done on tab stacking. We see it now in its most primitive form.

Yes, I fully agree.
While I certainly hope Ayespy is right I somhow can't help worrying that the look-and-feel will not considerably change. -
Had you been following it for the last ten months as I have, you would be shocked it if did not considerably change.

I'm following the development since February. And while bugs where fixed and features concerning stacks were added the basic philosophy (that's what I meant with look-and-feel) how a stack is presented and how a stack can be manipulated has barely changed.
E.g. unstacking and restacking I consider as a very important and basic functionality regarding stacks. Admittedly I have no idea of the complexity to provide this feature.
I hope I don't sound frustrated (Vivaldi is already my default browser at work) and I'm still sure to see quite some improvements. But since I'm not aware of any comments from a developer in this respect and being already in beta I really don't know why I should be optimistic to see a fundamental change. -
My personal feeling is that your anxiety is unfounded. Given the size of the development team and the pattern and rate of development across a very broad range of issues, it's pretty clear to me there is too little manpower to both a) introduce new features at a fairly rapid pace and b) do a deep dive into all of the qualities of any feature, at the same time. I see them adding things and then coming back around bit by bit and refining stuff they added in the past.
At some point, if they are EVER to get to a first stable release, they have to consider each current feature good enough "for now," and work on fixing things that are really bugs, or completely absent needed features (like for instance, if they were to add the ability to drag a tab out to a new window before final, that would not surprise me). If they were to do a major rework of tab stacking, tiling, page actions, speed dial at this early stage, that WOULD surprise me. These features are stable and "good enough" for a first stable release.
Once we get to Stable 1.0, I fully expect a deeper dive into some of the features (like tab stacking, speed dial configurations, notes, bookmarks bar subfolders, etc.) and the addition of some more major features (such as mail, skins) to become eligible for closer attention.
That's my feeling.

@slitkx Please see When Will Feature Requests be Implemented?
The Window Panel is currently the best ways to organise tab stacks.
