Bookmarks bar - how to add bookmarks to it?
-
I know that the answer to this is probably staring me in the face and I cannot see it. I know that I must be totally stupid not to see it. But how to I add bookmarks to the bookmark bar? I have started using Vivaldi on Windows 8.1 and Lubuntu 14.04. Thanks for any help!

[ol]
- Open the Bookmarks Panel
- Right click on a folder
- Set as Bookmarks Bar folder
- To add new items to the bookmarks bar, add new bookmarks to that folder

There are multiple ways.
-
Go into settings and assign a folder that has some bookmarks in it to be your bookmarks bar. Any folder.
-
Drag a URL from the address bar to the bookmarks bar.
-
Make a new folder in the bookmarks panel, name it whatever you want, drag a selection of bookmarks into it from some other folders(s), go into settings and assign that new folder to be your bookmarks bar.

Great! Thanks.
I used creating a new folder for bookmarks.
I had been trying to drag URLs to the bookmarks bar and that was not and still is not working. But at least I have a solution.

Works here. You have to grab the URL by the badge at the far left edge of the addressbar. I don't recall for sure if this was working in the Beta, but it is working in version 1.0.330.3 which you can find here: https://vivaldi.net/

Thanks, DJPS,
I have been putting in my bookmarks individually, by writing them out. Lot quicker dragging it.
By the way, where did you get the picture of me when I was 5?

You're welcome, Larry! That was actually my tip TO DJPS. Glad it helped you as well!

when I try to drag the url or badge, it looks like it is attempting, but only inserts a horizontal blue line where I place it. Which subsequently disappears.

It works perfectly here. Do you have any extensions that might block this?
-
Another question - do you actually have a folder chosen to be the bookmarks bar - or is your bar empty?
-
Hi Ayespy,
I have Evernote and Bitdefender Wallet.
You got me on the folder question. I have the bookmarks on the left, and it contains a number of folders, many pre-populated by Vivaldi…
Thx,

So then you do not have the bookmark bar turned on?
You are describing the bookmark panel, not the bookmark bar. And in the panel is every bookmark folder, including whichever folder you have elected to display as Speed Dial. Speed Dial is not a special entity. It is just a display option for one or more of your bookmark folders. Vivaldi is unique in that way. Other browsers isolate Speed Dial from bookmarks and they are, in fact, separate entities - but not in Vivaldi. In Vivaldi you get to pick ANY folder(s) to display as Speed Dial, and any folder to display on the Bookmar Bar.
The bookmark bar goes across the top of the browser. You turn it on in tools/settings/bookmarks, and it is at this same location that you select which folder to display as the Bookmark Bar. You can drag URLs from the address bar onto this bar to make bookmarks. You can also add bookmarks by using the little bookmark symbol at the left of the address bar, where you can choose the folder you want them to go into in the dropdown list.
Right now, adding bookmarks by dragging from the address bar to the bookmark PANEL, is broken. The developers will fix it.

Thanks for explaining that - very helpful!
