Tab, menu and Speed Dial fixes – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2218.3

@uhura2000 There is, though named differently (but you can change it)

@potmeklecbohdan The feed panel is just a way to access feeds when you don’t have any mail accounts. Previously you had to at least add one to view and access them. The Mail complete view still works as normal and I don’t use the feed panel. It has one upside though, you can refresh feeds manually with a button, that’s impossible from Mail panel. I think automatic updating of feeds is still broken…
You can do it, you could already add feeds without an email account, the bad thing is that it creates all your email folders but then just uses "Unread", "Received" and "Trash".

Possible bug (confirmation needed) - invisible search engine name on the list in the settings when more than 12 search engines.
I have no problems and i have 24 search engine.
@uhura2000 "Go to...." is missing. Present in version 3.6.
-
@uhura2000 That’s not supposed to work, because it’s not a link. The link context menu only works on link elements (
<a href=
). Now granted, addresses that aren’t link elements can be selected and in the page menu they are handled by theGo to
menu entry and this will open the link. Why theGo to
entry doesn’t show up in text fields I don’t know, but personally I don’t miss it. You’re simply using the wrong tool for the job.edit: And now I know what you did and why it opens
vivaldi.com
. You took theOpen Link
entry from the commands sesction and put it in the text field menu. But the open link command doesn’t open given links, it enables you to put links in menus. You drag it over and then you enter an address and that address will be available from the menu. When you don’t change the address of theOpen Link
command it will default tovivaldi.com
and this is what you are experiencing. Just delete the entry, it cannot do what you want.What you can do is write a feature request to make the
Go to
command available in the text field menu. -
@potmeklecbohdan: Thanks for checking! I tried all text field and selection related menu modifications: the menu in my screenshot does not change.
Also: I didn't modify any menu before the update, it just stopped working by showing "Open link" instead of "Go to $1". Maybe this context menu is not modifiable at the moment? -
@uhura2000 Since you have that additional open link that definitely isn’t there by default, you must have edited the menu (it’s web page/selection).

-
@potmeklecbohdan Yeah, because it needs the selection anyway. Nothing to do here but keep everything as is…
-
@luetage: Thanks for the answer! This is not about the link context menu. It's about the selection context menu in text entry fields (like in Wordpress). It worked before. I use it to check copied (text format) links before posting them. Now I have to copy and paste them in a new tab manually.
"And now I know what you did [...]": I didn't change anything before this update (it was broken in the the update before this one). The "Open link" entry just appeared (and the "Go to $1" disappeared).
"but personally I don’t miss it": well, unfortunately I'm not youFun fact: it works perfectly in Chrome and Firefox: https://imgur.com/a/c4FwJIx (and I'm sure there is a reason for this and I may be not the only person using this feature).
Also I guess it is still working in the stable version of Vivaldi (can't check this ATM). -
@potmeklecbohdan: It appeared after the update before last. I tried to edit it after this update without success. I reset the web page/selection menu in the settings. The context menu never changed.
-
Hey all, great update! Any word on when the video issues with Vivaldi on the M1 will be fixed? GIFs on Twitter and other sites still looking like scrambled cable from the ’80s.
It was like this on the Intel version, and still like this on Apple Silicon.

@uhura2000: "Open Link" is an action you can add to a menu to open a specific url. You configure this url (and title) in Settings by right click -> Edit in that particular menu entry. This action never uses the current selection in a page. By default it will open vivaldi.com.
The action that opens the url that is selected as text is named "Go to".

Issue mentioned by @oudstand in earlier desktop blog 2202.3:
https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/448264
Somehow Vivaldi won't start from the taskbar anymore.
Executing the .exe from the windows explorer still works.This issue is stil present.
Vivaldi is started in the background when clicking on the task bar icon but it won't show up on the screen.
Removing shortcut from and adding it to the taskbar does not solve the problem. Even when a restart in between is performed.Windows 10, 64 bit.
Any ideas? Is a bug submitted? Is it already known/solved?Regards, a3ano

On my taskbar shortcut's goal stood something like: application-id="..."
After removing this, everything works fine again.Maybe this came from an old PWA?

Yes correct, but the problem is that when you select the text it does not appear "Go to".
-
@Folgore101 Coz you need
$1
there.(in settings) -> (result in menu)
Go to
->Go to
Go to $1
->Go to vivaldi.com
-
@folgore101: The selected text must resemble a url. The urls in bold work fine here for me. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Example.com
-
@espen: @Folgore101: @potmeklecbohdan: Thanks all for checking!
@espen: the issue is not on web pages like in your example (this works fine), it's related to text fields/form entries = text that is being entered into a text field. Example: the search file = text box in the Google search bar https://imgur.com/a/c4FwJIx (the screenshot shows it working in FF and Chrome). -
@uhura2000: Right, that support has not been added. Will look into it.
-
@espen I was cryptic, @uhura2000 explained it all cerrettaously. In the Stable 3.6 it works properly.
-
@oudstand: Unfortunately I have not found something like application-id in the target.
In the shortcut Vivaldi in the task bar folder
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
I find the Target path specified as
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\Application\vivaldi.exe .
Look OK for me.
