Is there seriously no way to allow popups in this browser?
-
I have several things in my workflow that require a popup window in order to function properly and having them launch in a new tab just simply will not work. This is the one single feature preventing me from using Vivaldi. I found a few threads that seem to indicate that this is expected behavior and will not change. I also tried the chrome://settings/content trick and while I chose to allow all popups, the behavior didn't actually change. Is there seriously no way to allow popups in this browser?

chrome://settings/content
Set to allow popups

chrome://settings/content
Set to allow popups
Not sure if you didn't read my post? But I tried that and it didn't change the behavior at all.

No, currently everything opens in new tabs, as it was the default setting in Old Opera. I'm unsure when this option will show.

So then why did you recommend changing a setting if you knew that it wouldn't do anything? Lol, sorry, not trying to be rude, but just an odd response.
If you search these forums, there are several posts from folks looking for this option. In reality, it is a feature offered by every other browser and I agree, normally popups are better in tabs, but there are a ton of use cases where that is actually a less desirable behavior.
I sincerely hope you will add it and unfortunately cannot use Vivaldi until I have this standard functionality, thanks.

The problem with "allowing" popups is that a popup is a window. Vivaldi windows are created with a wholly different technology than Chrome windows. Hence, to "allow" popups, a whole new batch of code has to be written so that "popups" can be valid Vivaldi windows. Trying to create Chrome windows in Vivaldi will not really work. This also means that extensions that create/use popups are also severely limited or don't work at all. Hence, there will be a lot more code-writing before popups in general, or specific to extensions, will work.

Thanks for the explanation!

Where did I suggest to change any setting? In case you haven't noticed I'm An_dz and who suggested the setting is Ayespy. Our avatars are different as well.

That said, there has been some sort of change with this latest build (1.0.321.3), whereby many more extension popups are now being allowed, plus the ability to interact with them, so possibly the ability to have popups in general may have changed. It's worth checking into…

I have this problem as well, try Internet Banking. I get halfway through a transfer and need to pick the bank I am transferring to, I click on the show options symbol and i get a new tab. Only problem with that is that this tab (defaultflexcubepopup.html) will not load. If I cannot get to the branch options I cannot complete the transaction.

Does anyone know if there are any updates on this or if we are any closer to having true popup window support?
