What is your opinion on Microsoft Edge?
-
Well, Edge is fast. Thats about it. You can't even install extensions and Edge has very few features to begin with.
-
Looks okay, but I won't use it as my main browser without it having extensions.
But to be fair, I probably won't use it as my main browser even when it gets extensions.
I have two finger scrolling enabled on my touchpad and it is buggy on my machine with Edge but works okay with all my other browsers. I don't know if that's something that affects other users not?
-
Edge is a bad joke… Even IE has more features than it. It's incomplete, that's it. No extensions, no tracking lists, takes ages to load a page...
-
I feel that when Edge has extensions, like AdBlock and some Syncronisation, I will delete all my browsers and stick to it.
One thing that makes IE and Edge stand above the rest is that they are integrated into Windows to such a level that they are completely compatible with the OS, something other browsers can NEVER achieve. I really have high hopes for Edge, because it has a lot of potential.

When Internet Explorer 1 was reworked from Spyglass Mosaic, it didn't have much features either, but it was gradually introduced to many features over the years, expect the same with Edge, nowadays if you want to make a new browser, you should first make it stable and then gradually add features and work out the problems they cause.
Extensions will supposedly come before the end of 2015, get your info updated, please, I don't use it right now, but when it has what I need, I won't be using any other browser. -
I don't have any opinion about it cause I run windows 7 on a computer, while on some others I don't even run windows
Anyway it was released since a few time and there's a big company behind it
it will be okMicrosoft released Zune sometime ago, it failed, now Windows Phone Mobile - doesn't seem to be doing good either - developers keep pulling their apps off he store, or simply stop bother updating them. I hope it eventually works out for Edge, because I've been having a hard time finding a good browser and Vivaldi and Edge are on my list when they get stable enough for an everyday use.

on one hand Edge is part of the microsoft supported package so only what they want extending it will be added. right now it is so clean! Isn't that wonderful !!! on the other hand microsoft will help teach you to build from it with the apple webtoolskit. Microsoft is properly directioning system applications to invoke the ever increasing important central browser for video, pdf, html, file manager, gee, everything. for now vivaldi brings the edge browser to non-windows 10 machines. bravo. both seem optimized for touchscreen. quite forward moving. ie11 still brings more power to the desktop.

At this point, I only have hopes for Vivaldi and Edge, the other browsers have disappointed me with the direction they have taken.
Firefox was OK, but became more and more bloated with each new version, the last time it worked fine was with versions 3.5 and 3.6. Version 4 was a disaster and after that Firefox has only slightly gotten better, but not enough to be used.
Chrome was lightning fast when it was first released, but around version 6 or 10 it started getting slower and slower, at this point only ignorant or lazy people are using it, those who just don't care or are too lazy to look for an alternative.
IE doesn't need to be mentioned, since it doesn't even have proper extensions an AdBlock support, you have to install a separate program, which is a real pain.
Edge is too recent and hardly any updates have been released for it to have anything new to offer. Microsoft should really work on getting extension support released ASAP, otherwise Edge will bite the dust, just like IE is right now - the most popular browser for downloading other browsers.

One thing I'm liking about the browser so far over Vivaldi is the clear text on every webpage.
I also like that the text and sites themselves seem to look bigger or are scaled to fit better in the screen than Vivaldi does it. For example, this website itself may or may not have the same amount of grey on the sides on Edge like Vivaldi does, but the site inside seems to look better scaled and easier to view, which is really nice.
I would love it if Vivaldi had this ability like Edge does!
-
What my opinion is? Well, it all sums up in "too little, too late"…
-
Right now I'm using CyberFox and it is wonderful. I'm willing to give Vivaldi a try but if I can't get extensions to download YouTube videos it will gather dust so to speak. Edge has no extension support, you can't download file to the location you want (in my case the desktop) and it can't even import favourites properly. It'll be a long time before I use that piece of malware.

I know this is an old thread but hey it's there so why start a new one. Edge has moved on a bit since these posts. Now has extensions (but not a huge number of them) and one or two nice features of its own (the ability to put tabs aside for later reading). Since without any add-ons it's still very quick to start up and shutdown, it's a really good "page reader". So although I use Vivaldi for almost everything (google apps etc.), I've left Edge as the default browser. Any time I pop up a page from (e.g.) twitter, it comes up quickly in Edge and doesn't clutter up my Vivaldi tabs.
-
It's ok, but nothing special. I consider chrome/edge in the same way.
No customization, no vertical tabs. Not my style of navigation at all :3
And I'm not a big fan of metro/modern apps so.. -
@axander Interesting. I find their UI possibly the worst, most unintuitive and opaque of all browsers. It is the chief reason why I avoid it like the plague. To each his own.
-
@Ayespy The user interface for Edge has about four things in it, besides the url bar and the page pane. There is limited scope for opacity there, and avoiding it like the plague would be effort poorly spent. As you say, to each their own - but you might want to give it another look. I'm a committed vivaldi user and I still have edge as my page reader.
-
@aach1 Every time my system rebels on me, I get to look at Edge. Have not found a single thing to recommend it yet. But thanks.
-
@Ayespy yer welcome...
-
Essential utility to be able to download Vivaldi
-
@Catweazle You may have something there...
-
@Catweazle haha but you fail the purity test. should be using chrome or firefox for that...
