Picture in Picture mode: Vivaldi vs Chrome vs Firefox
-
on mobile it's atrocious, but that may be due to the screen being not suited to watching videos even on full size, and on desktop you can easily handle multiple windows or even screens so it isn't too helpful either, I always just disable the feature as it clutters the interface
-
@joeduffus: they tend to mark unfinished features as done and be oh so proud of it
mouse gestures (you can't bind rockers freely)
toolbar configuration (single purpose regions)
middle-click-on-tab-bar that doesn't work with default setup (tabs on top) -
@pathduck: Thank you for your input! I can see how that would make it more desirable
-
@dolven Sure
I mean, I have no problem with the one extra click when right-clicking and choosing PiP. Some people seem to like buttons for some reason, good for them.
Even more awesome would be the ability to launch PiP with a keyboard hotkey. Obviously there could be more than one video on a page, in that case launch the first item, or the currently playing one.
I strive for the moment of perfection in a browser where I do not need to use a mouse at all
-
@Pathduck It would be a long and winding road to get to this point. Vivaldi’s UI forces you to click and clack, or use tab navigation and cursor keys, which is suboptimal, to put it mildly.
-
@kamizuru: How you did it?
-
@geazisoares:
1 - Open firefox and type in address bar (confirme the box \o/)
About:config2- in Search type this
media.videocontrols.picture-in-picture.allow-multiple3 - Change False to True
4 - Reset browser -
@kamizuru: Tx bro!
-
I use PiP on a daily basis and one thing that I like about Firefox's implementation is that now it actually remembers the size and position of the PiP so I don't have to manually re-set it every single time, which is a huge time saver for me.
I just tested it with Vivaldi 3.6 and it doesn't work as well. It does remember the size, but the location is not always correct. I prefer to position it in the bottom right corner just on the edge and for some reason Vivaldi can't seem to save that position, it's always off.
-
@guigirl: That's odd, Up/Down do in fact control volume on my FF 85.
-
Drag pop-out window to full screen V- No Ch- No FF- Yes
this is useful when i want to put on a second monitor
you write untruth - it's saddevelopers please! add fullscreen
-
It's acceptable to understand what the Vivaldi group makes conceivable to give us this interesting program
-
I use PiP all the time, but the best implementation of it, sadly, belongs to Opera not Vivaldi. It grieves me to say that, but Opera is the only one to offer a true volume control (not just a mute button) in the PiP window.
I have requested this feature of Vivaldi. I hope they can do it.

Thank you for the great article. What “Drag pop-out window to full screen”? I don't see how to do that with Vivaldi.
Here the responses of the test for Safari on macOS, would be nice to add it to the compare:
Web site compatibility: Yes, with touchbar
Easy to launch: Yes, with touchbar
Play / Pause button: Yes
Mute / Unmute: No
Progress bar: Yes, on Touchbar
Move up and down playlists: No -
My favorite (and I think my only use at the moment) is to watch podcasts while I work or study. It's phenomenal.
Opera's also works just as well, no other browser compares to the functionality of these two. -

@guigirl: I suspect this article is more intended for people looking for a browser to try and convince them to switch, rather than to inform existing users.
Yes, but the evangelicalism approach rarely works, and this article is heavily biased. Usually, you know a bad product comparison chart when there is a “Yes” in every column of the product you’re advertising. It made the post feel dishonest. I love V’s PiP implementation, but I don’t think this post will attract users because of the way it’s written.

watch podcasts
I must be missing something. I thought podcasts were only for listening...
-
-
@Ayespy Huh.
-
@lonm: It comes across like those 'best x' software lists from companies with their own products in the space. There's just something about the tone. I think the effort to make it seem objective too makes it seem more dishonest too.
I'd rather you didn't show hubris like this.
