Sync is the only feature stopping me
-
I am really interested in Vivaldi and I have played with the test builds. However, I absolutely CANNOT use this as my main browser until a global sync option is available. One thing Chrome has done is made me very lazy when it comes to my web surfing. I can get on any system with Chrome installed and EVERYTHING is there. My bookmarks, login info, cached pages! Even on systems I have logged into for the first time. I cannot work effectively on the web without this kind of sync. So... when you are done developing this feature and actually put it in a usable build; then I will begin using Vivaldi as my primary, because I love the look, just feature wise is kinda useless at the moment.

I would like to second this. I love to use Vivaldi, but as I'm working on three machines, each with a different OS, a global sync is pretty essential.

There are other ways access your bookmarks from any computer, and from any browser.

That won't be any use, and the Opera Sync is integrated with Opera for Blink. What is needed is a service that can be used with any browser, e.g. Internet Explorer if someone needs to access their bookmarks from their workplace where only IE is permitted (or Edge on Windows 10).

Not supported and not working are two different things.
And Operalink still works perfectly here, and hopefully will work for enough time until the birth of Vivaldi Sync.
-
Too bad the XMarks extension doesn't work. That would help folks with some of these issues until sync could be written and the sync infrastructure acquired and deployed.
-
The lack of full-scale sync (sync'ing everything that's worth sync'ing) is a bit of pain to me, too. But, I can imagine that to build a sync infrastructure is a huge work, especially when you consider security implications.
So, I suggest, let's be patient. There is no question that Vivaldi will have a sync mechanism, sooner or later.

Bookmark-Sync is the reason I still stick to Opera 12.17Well… frankly the need of some use of Opera services will be removed only the day that a Vivaldi mobile app/or a sync plugin for opera mobile and/other browsers will be released.
Sync between PCs is handy but not mandatory IMO, the killer feature of Opera link was the synchronization between mobile and desktops.
-
You can do it manually though doing it more than once is a hassle. You won't at least have to install all extensions and make bookmarks again.
The way tested already is copying the whole profile. I did this from Windows 8.1 to Linux Mint 17.1 (Cinnamon desktop). You need to delete the Default folder in /home/{user}/.config/Vivaldi and replace it with the Default folder from C:Users{user}\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data.
In this Default folder you find three folders related to extensions 'Extensions', 'Extension Rules', 'Extension State', and the file 'Bookmarks'. Replacing only the 'Bookmarks' file is working. If the replacement of the three extensions folders is also working, I don't know but it's worth a try. -

Sync would be a powerful feature, and this is one of reasons why Chrome is so popular.
Vivaldi is great, it gets better and better.
-
Once Vivaldi adds sync it can be my full time browers.
-
And make it work with Owncloud. I am not going to trust my bookmarks and passwords to any online/cloud service but offline (i.e. while at home) syncing would be insanely good.
Nevertheless, Vivaldi IS my full time browser, as classic Opera is too slow/broken nowadays and I hate everything else.

If that was enough to explain, Opera was dominating the world given Opera introduced it when Googles CEO had yet to get his driving license.

Hello,
Putting 'great sync' and 'Chrome' in the same sentence does a disservice to Firefox Sync, which IMHO, is much better. Especially when it comes to History. I often find that I do not find what I am looking for in Chrome history between devices, which I am forced to log into the device where the history entry occurred!
Anyway, I can do without sync for the time being, as someone had suggested this browser to me. Although, using Google Chrome as the underlying engine? Google Chrome garbles up memory like it's candy which is detrimental to users experience with their computer. Chrome developers WONTFIX.

Sync (bookmarks AND notes AND …) should also be done without refering to any online "facility" :
It needs a local extraction of the coded data, then merge, then recode.
That was possible on O12.
any hope ? -

I agree. Even when Vivaldi has became my main navigator, I miss the real full sync of firefox.
I use FVD Speed Dial - EverSync as my start and new page on Vivaldi and my alternative navigators (fire and chrome) and it syncs my bookmarks and speed dials between every computer.
Anyway, in fire and chrome when I install an extension in one computer it synchronizes it too, that's not the case of Vivaldi.
