@rogue81 Wait, what? We can use animated gifs as speed dial thumbnails? Oh man, I've got some work to do. Awesome first post, welcome to the forum.
-
@BoneTone Sure. I remember even some testing of GIFs and even MP4/WEBM files for SD backgrounds, it seemed to work.
Just don't come crying here when your system slows to a crawl

@BoneTone Happy that you changed your mind

@Ornorm the animated thumbnails are cool, but you don't find it distracting? I can't stand things moving or flashing, even like a taskbar item that's blinking when the window has an update but isn't active. It's like a hyperactive Jack Russell terrier jumping and yipping trying to steal my attention away from what I'm working on.

@Ornorm I guess I knew this at one point, I actually recall that now. That's still true, but my use of speed dials has greatly expanded since then. At that time, I didn't have multiple speed dials, now I have something like 8-10 usually depending on what projects I have going at the moment. I wouldn't put the animations on my default speed dial, but some of the others seem like good fits, and the speed dial on our media PCs connected to a TV would also be a good place for this, which is what popped in mind when I saw @rogue81's post.

I won't. Have people been reporting severe performance issues from having several gifs as speed dial thumbnails?
I see this same comment about numerous other things I have no problems doing with Vivaldi. I suppose my system could be much more powerful than other people's, it's no slouch, but I also haven't upgraded the hardware in 4 years and have room to at least double the RAM on my motherboard and there are newer faster CPUs with more cores that I could install. I guess if all the things I do (such as keep 5+ years of history, have 130,000+ bookmarks, open many hundreds of tabs simultaneously, etc.) that I've been told would make my system crawl don't even noticeably affect performance, I'll be able to display a few gifs at the same time.

Not really. I was mostly talking about someone trying to use a massive GIF as a speed dial background image (which is actually possible). Or having lots of large unoptimized GIFs on the SD. Might slow things down, might not be noticeable at all depending on the system.
I have tried some GIFs and it works OK, even tried a 100MB "Matrix code" one downloaded from YT and converted to GIF, it was fine. But I always return to a static background, much less distracting.

In UR browser you cannot use gif as background, but paralax images, which it offers from its repository (images that change the 3D perspective with the movement of the mouse).

If you're looking for a darker theme than the default one, try this color layout, really looks amazing and is consistent with the colors throughout some of the most-used websites such as YouTube, DuckDuckGo etc.
Makes the dark theme look like this.
It's a small tweak, but makes the dark theme much more elegant in my opinion.

I've been messing around with CSS lately and I wanted to try to get the old Windows Vista/7 aero style into Vivaldi a little. Here's where I am so far. I'm not really sold on any background image yet, but I wanted to share what I've got.
During the day it uses this.
During the night is swaps to this.

Thanks for the theme :3
