URL sharing via QR code and an update to Chromium 87 – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2110.3
-
@killchain Actually that page is not very useful but due problems with the actual print page builds ago, I asked. Another crashing page is
vivaldi://translate-internals/
(force close) but not useful at all in productivity -
@nazariansani Who said it’s supposed to save custom text? (Though I don’t understand why the URL is there when it’s in the address field already)
-
Who said it’s supposed to save custom text?
@potmeklecbohdan ,so, the text below the QR Code should not be selectable and editable
If the text is to be selected and Edited, so it must be able to save custom texts as well.
This can be used as an ancillary feature. -
@nazariansani @potmeklecbohdan The chrome implementation supports custom text, so should vivaldi.
@nazariansani If you could please file a bug for this, I can confirm it. For information on how to report a bug, see this URL: https://vvld.in/how-to-report-bugs
On the form, you can add your email address. Once submitted, you'll get a confirmation. You can reply to this with any logs or further info.
Once that is done, please share the bug number (beginning with VB- or VAB-). Thanks.
-
@LonM ,Thanks, I have done this before for other problems, Okay, i'm reporting this problem and I share its bug number.
-
I'll assume that such thoughts are welcome here, since they regard a new feature: It would be nice if the stacked tabs view would support MMB to close individual tabs and Esc to close the view itself and click somewhere on the website beneath.

@Valdyn the RSS feed should still be there. I did though just fix a bug that might have been causing an infinite redirect loop for some users. Could you try checking the feed again, and if it still doesn't work please let me know what feed URL you are using? Thanks!
-
@thomasp Thank you, the feed works again and I got ten new articles.
I have two feed addresses https://vivaldi.com/blog/feed/ and https://vivaldi.com/feed/, judging that all articles have a header "Content-Base: https://vivaldi.com/blog/…" I suppose that I need only the first address?
-
@Valdyn Glad to hear it's working again for you.
Yes, both of those feed URLs point to the same feed (in fact one now just redirects to the other).

This can be used as an ancillary feature. This bug report is not really useful, this feature is for the url only as stated in the blog post, and as of now* it isn't intended (nor logical the way it's designed so far - you click the button to "Share page with QR Code" after all-) to accept custom text, it just regenerates a new QR image whenever you are editing the current url, (for example removing your post count # at the end, 171 to have the QR image for the start of the thread) it just doesn't save the new image to folder when you click on "Save to Download" (saves the initial one again). It would be more useful to report that as a bug instead, though I guess it's too trivial and obvious to be unknown to them.
*We plan to look at other ways to simplify sharing URLs and this button may therefore evolve into a more generic sharing button, but for now it is via QR code and thus the button reflects that.

@thomasp
what about the snapshot feed at https://vivaldi.com/blog/snapshots/feed/ ?
that's the one, I'm registered to and that doesn't work
if I want to register now the snapshot feed, I get the URL https://vivaldi.com/category/desktop-snapshots/feed/ which also doesn't work -
@derDay I think that should now be working too. Let me know.
-
@thomasp
they work both, thank you for your efforts! -
Happy to say that this new flag works well in V, same as in Chromium.
PDF Viewer Update When enabled, the PDF viewer will display an updated UI with new options and features. – Mac, Windows, Linux, Chrome OS #pdf-viewer-update
It's not exactly full-featured [ie, my Okular is safe], but nevertheless is a welcome improvement.
-
@Steffie yeah I've seen it but I don't use anything
GoogleGargle you say? related so... long live Okular (/edit: at least I try to not, conciously)
