How to customize menus in Vivaldi browser
-
@Steffie Thus:
-
@Steffie What if you try different emojis? Is the result same?
-
I think putting
&
to the front works as well, just all of them need to have it. -
My original ones came from https://copychar.cc/emoji/.
Just now, for those three problem items, i instead copied from https://emojipedia.org/clamp/, & used alternative icons. Result is still three failures [no new pic as looks same as before], but this is my settings now:

Do you mean even the currently ok items?
-
@Steffie yes
-
@npro Oh.
-
@Steffie Maybe
-
@Steffie I'll
-
@Steffie try
-
@Steffie again.
-
@npro The only negative of it is that the icon gets underlined so putting it before the word is better.
-
-
@Gwen-Dragon I have tried both of these:
- Use the site's button to copy to clipboard
- Manually select the target icon then right-click copy to cb
-
@Steffie This... scissor icon, is it the real one or it's just a placeholder of your broken emojis?
-
@npro It's this one
️
from
https://emojipedia.org/scissors/I am beginning to think that all this hassle is just another hallmark of my previously-discussed refusal to use Noto fonts wrt emojis. I think i'll just quit on this attempted menu mod now.
-
@Steffie so it's the broken one...
I don't know how much you've tinkered with it and what a mess it could be :smiling_face_with_open_mouth_closed_eyes: but this has always worked for mehttps://archived.forum.manjaro.org/t/tutorial-how-to-enable-system-wide-color-emoji-support/35188 (without even point 3. iirc)
you 'd just need to regenerate the fonts with
fc-cache -f -v
after that. (maybe additionaly withfc-cache-32
)I'll try using your emojis with both methods.
/edit:
so here they are (all emojis copied from KDE's Emoji Selector)
-
@npro Ta ... but we have already discussed this somewhere else in the forum, sometime afaik within the past couple of months. The sticking point with that procedure [which you or someone else here] have already shown me, is this part:
This will change your default fonts to Noto, you can customize it if you want
As i keep saying, i really dislike Noto fonts & do not want them as my default family. It says it can be customised but doesn't explain how, ie, is it as simple as replacing every instance of
noto
with my favoured font in/etc/fonts/local.conf
? What happens each time i choose to change my default, which does happen each few months it seems, to suit my whims [atm it's as simple as using the Fonts section in the Plasma Settings GUI]?Ta anyway.

Now that IS interesting. Every single time i have looked at my KES, for the last several major & dot Plasma releases, almost all the emojis were utterly broken. I've just looked again now [my first look since 5.20] & they are now 100% good.

@jane-n I am having a hard time making it work.
- The File menu icon works without a leading space
- The Bookmarks menu icon works with a leading space
- The Tools menu icon works with a leading space
- The Window menu does not work with or without leading spaces.
- The ampersand ensures that the first letter is underlined instead of the leading space.
