Tab stacking
-
Hi! I don't like the current implementation of tab stacking at all, it was much better in Opera 12. There are several reasons for this, but the two main ones are 1: you can't easily drag a tab out of the stack, and 2: you can't simply expand the stack to reveal the content in a nice clear way (like you could in Opera 12). I know you have a lot to do right now, but I'm just asking: Is this how you would like it to be and are you not planing to make any further work on the tab stacking feature, or is this something to have while you're working on other more important features, which you will improve later? I would also like to know if I'm the only one who thinks like this, perhaps most of you are satisfied with how it is now?

Hi!
I would also like to know if I'm the only one who thinks like this, perhaps most of you are satisfied with how it is now?I wholeheartedly agree with your comments and I also hope that the current concept of tab-stacking will be revised.
It also worries me that Vivaldi might take comments seriously which regard the current tab-stacking as sufficient. -

In Opera 12 I could expand the stack by double click. It was awesome! -
I also copletely agree with tab stacking. Please, let us know, if it will, or will not be changed. Tab stacking in old opera was the best tab stacking, i've ever seen. Cant you make it the same?

In time, with a few tens of thousands more lines of code and months of testing, I'm sure they can.

@mercurious I suppose you mean Vivaldi (not Opera)
I know this was a kind of late reply but I haven't seen these answers until now.
Anyway, the thing with the current implementation is that it works different from regular tabs; every time you want to go to a tab in the stack you have to hover your mouse over the tab, wait like half a second, and THEN search for the tab in the stack. All this you have to sacrifice when you're using tab stacks, and I think this leads to many users not using them.
The design is also extremely counterproductive, because often when you have tab stacks, you first browse/work a bit in one stack, and after a while you switch to another stack and work there. With this design, the seldom switch between these groups is very quick, while the frequent switch between tabs in the stack is much slower and bulkier. Compare this to Opera 12's design where it is the opposite (shrink/expand when switching between groups, regular click when switching in group).

@gustavwiz Try Ctrl Tab and Ctrl Shift Tab to switch tabs. Cycle in Tab bar order or Cycle in Recently used order in settings, whichever suits your workflow best.
Switching via the tabstack previews is quicker and easier if you have a lot of tabs in a stack. It does not take even half a second here for the previews to popup.
I think the developers have far more important issues to focus on at the moment than making subtle improvements to tab-stacking.

Thanks for the answer, @Pesala, but I don't think Ctrl Tab has something to do with tab stacking, it sound more like a workaround for a bad feature
I don't agree that it's easier with the previews even when one has many tabs open, and I know other users have stated this as well.
I wouldn't call this a "subtle improvement", rather "a complete redesign" of the feature. And yes, they probably have other more important things to focus on.

@mercurious you can already rename tab stacks
