Vivaldi Graphics Glitch on Ubuntu
-
Hey all, so it seems Vivaldi is having a glitch with AMD systems (those that use AMD graphics can probably confirm this on Linux variants).
In the upper-left corner, there are some artifacts that appear randomly. Disabling hardware acceleration fixes it.
Here's a photo:
Is this bug going to be fixed soon?

Could possibly be a driver issue. Have you looked into that? Are you using the generic driver or one from your GPU manufacturer? Try the other one.

Guess it's a browser bug, but it's unfortunate since I just switched back recently. As for drivers, the amdgpu is already the provided (and included) driver for my system.
I've already disabled hardware acceleration, but it results in lackluster performance.

@Gwen-Dragon With hardware acceleration on? It glitched for a brief moment.
-
@Gwen-Dragon Did another test and it still persists. Didn't turn out to be temporary on my end.
-
@Gwen-Dragon Funny thing is, I distro-hopped right on over to Manjaro and downloaded an AUR-maintained Vivaldi package and now I'm no longer experiencing this issue. I am well-aware the Arch-version is NOT maintained by Vivaldi, but so far, I'm not having any issues.
-
@JoshuaPhelps Arch & Archies beat Ubuntu each day of the week & twice on Sundays, for a multitude of reasons. However, though it's OT for this specific thread, i heartily suggest you remove the AUR version & henceforth use the
herecura
repo.https://potmeklecbohdan.vivaldi.net/341/installing-vivaldi-on-arch-linux/
-
@Steffie since that's an unofficial AUR, what's to say packages will continue to be updated?
-
@JoshuaPhelps Ike is the long-time trusted Arch Dev/Maintainer who owns & operates that repo [
herecura
]. Guess who builds all the Vivaldi packages for the AUR? Ike. -
@Steffie Well that's neat! Thanks for the answer! I honestly didn't know.

It is happening to vivaldi and brave with Mint both 20 and 19.3 and MX Linux (19) both the same problems on two different machines, it started a few days ago. Both machines are AMD. It is not happening with firefox.
-
@lang1988 Hi, welcome . Since Vivaldi and Brave are based on Chromium they can inherit problems from upstream as it seems to be the case. Firefox uses a totally different engine, not related to Chromium.
-
Just an observation: opening a "New Window" of Vivaldi and closing the initial one resolves all the artifacts for some reason. HW acceleration is on
