What browser did you use before switching to Vivaldi?
-
I switched from Firefox.
-
I switched from a mix of Maxthon and Firefox.
-
@RRR13:
Which option do I choose if I didn't switch yet but am still waiting for essential features not yet available in Vivaldi?
Then just don't vote.
-
@Sajadi:
Was always a loyal Firefox supporter before Mozilla decided to go the Opera light way (= minus the engine change) - Screw the power users with removing customization and introducing a minimalistic and simplistic design to appeal to mainstream (Chrome) users.
At least there is Classic Theme Restorer.
-
@Sajadi:
sure, but it was still a betrayal of Power Users. Which is unforgivable.
Firefox made the addon (though they don't update it anymore) and the drag & drop customization is very nice but it is still baffling why they made their browser look like a cheap imitation of Chrome.
-
@RRR13:
Fair enough. But I realized I have a problem: if I don't vote, I can't see the results.
I have a better idea than the one I proposed. Vote the browser you are currently using.

Is it possible to tic all the buttons of the poll? Depending on the operating system in use, I surfed the internet with different tools. Only for the last months I started to copy Vivaldi to all my platforms. So I switched from all to one. It's only a few days I upgraded one of my Windows PCs to Win10, of course I am playing with Edge there. On Debian is Iceweasel which I don't uninstall because of this quirky name.
^^^
Really could use more options too. I have ~15 browsers installed, and use most of them relatively frequently. But before Vivaldi, I used Firefox and Maxthon more than the rest, so I voted for Firefox. Tough call, though, because I use(d) Presto and Blink versions of Opera very often as well.
PS - how's Edge handling? I haven't gotten a chance to mess with Win10 yet.

Just press the "Vote" link. I accidentally voted twice for Firefox that way.

Firefox. It used to be really good, but they went to a bizarre policy of releasing a new version every eight weeks whether or not there was any reason on earth to have a new version. After that, it drove me crazy with breaking things.
I ran Linux almost exclusively for about six years. The Linux version of "old Opera" was okay, but it seemed a little behind the times even before development ceased, and I drifted toward Firefox. Like I said, it served me well for a while, but I haven't even opened it since about two weeks after I installed a very early Vivaldi build, and there aren't a lot of things about it that I miss.

Crap! I just discovered this a couple of minutes voting by mistake twice for both Opera versions.
No worries. I think you are still getting a statistically significant result - ie that more people are coming from Opera versions than anywhere else.
-
I switched from Google Chrome. Before I switched to Chrome a few months after Opera switched from Presto to Blink. So I really switched from Opera 12, I guess. Chrome was just some step between Opera and Vivaldi.
-
actually i have 7 browsers installed
- konqueror
- qupzilla
- mozilla firefox
- google chrome
- opera beta
- opera 12.16
- vivaldi snapshot
-
Here is my browser journey starting from the mid 90s
IE5/6 (dialup days) -> …
MyIE (omg it has tabs!) -> …
Opera 7-11 (omg it has tabs and doesn't suck) -> …
Chrome (ok this has way less functionality but my online banking works, also Chrome devtools are so much better then dragonfly) -> …
New Opera (finally I don't have to sell my soul to google and get a decent experience) -> …
Vivaldi (omg developers actually listen to what I say, and reply too!)
What I DON'T NEED from my browser (things I rarely or never use):
- Bookmarks
- Multiple search engines
- Tree-style or any non-standart tab layouts
What I don't really need but think is nice to have:
- Email client
- Torrent downloader
- IRC client
Things that are CRUCIAL for me:
- responsive UI
- good keyboard support
- Blink or Gecko engine (F apple slowpokes with their webkit)
- ability to delay tab loading
- Google Search suggestions
- privacy settings
- MOST OF ALL - I don't want my data to be shared with third parties by the browser vendor
Now things that would make me switch immediately to the wonder browser that implements these:
- Right click on tab -> 'Close all tabs to the left'
- Ability to create user scripts / own css styles for websites without having to install any stupid extensions (I want this functionality out of the box!!)
Vivaldi is still falling short in some of my cruscial points, but heck there is so much potential in this browser - you could cut it with a knife.
-
I use Opera 31 at home and Opera 12.17 at work.
-
Opera 3,4, 5, 6 in between 1997 and 2003 on windows
Opera 6 on Linux in 2001- 2004
Switched to Galeon/Phoenix/Firebird/Firefox as Opera on Linux was stuck at 6.x (6.4?) for a long time.
Once (2006?) Opera 7 or 8 for Linux was available I switched to it as I was disgusted from the memory bloat and wastage of Firefox.
Opera latest at the time between 2008 and late 2013 on Windows. Stuck with 10.X and 12.X for a long time.
Safari on OS X between 2008 and now, Opera 10,11,12 UI wasn't ever much good on OS X.
Since late 2013 IE 11 on windows.Vivaldi is still lacking in 3 areas for me to switch. -
1.downloads on a tab instead of panel (sorry, panel on the left is just obnoxious, and the on one the right just doesn't provide enough space for the info it needs to show - full file name and path it is being saved to)
2. master password to lock the password store
3. not really a Vivaldi issue but a webkit one - since 2012 webkit, especially chromium wastes a ton of RAM - 6 tab with minor content (forums, text only, no pictures, minimal CSS) waste 420MB RAM. Opera 12.17 renders those the same and uses only 180MB RAM.
