Vivaldi final release version 1.0?
-
Hello guys. New to the forum here. I have one question that has been bugging me since discovering Vivaldi exists, half a year ago. I notice that tech previews are released regularly, and the team is working non-stop to put in new features, and that is excellent. But, there should come a time when it should be said - "All right, that's enough features for now. Let's now make it work fast and smooth and bug-free and release a regular, 1.0 version everyone can use." I was wondering about that. As far as I'm concerned some basic (advanced) functionality is necessary - mouse gestures, configurability, keyboard shortcuts, tab stacking, maybe even a mail client. But some other features could be left for v1.5 or v2.0, etc. The point is, I really want to use Vivaldi instead of Opera 12 I use now. But what's stopping me is the non-existence of a proper browser release as opposed to the tech previews and snapshots. And I can't e the only person who thinks that way. So I was wondering, how long would it take before we got something like that?

They're getting pretty close to make Vivaldi a complete browser.
One thing missing is display of extension icons and buttons in the navigation menu/line.
I don't think we can expect it in less than half a year.
I hope some developer can come forward on the forum and tell us about the progression. -
I have a feeling that Vivaldi will never be as optimized and speedy as Opera browser which I believe is the most optimized chromium browser there is. Maxthon try to brag about their Nitro browser being scaled back and ultra fast but I can boot up Opera Developer faster where its usable as well as flow better and have sites loaded quicker than Nitro yet my Opera has much more functionality and a couple of extensions as well. I just don't get Nitro.

@ OP
You should be happy that Vivaldi has made technical previews open to everyone. Most developers never share their softwares at this stage, and if they share then it is only with very few people.Remember Opera 15 release, how they throwed it on users (FYI Opera is already looking for buyers).
Everyone uses browser differently, need different features(few want super speed browser to win races  ) but Vivaldi at this stage can be easily used regularly or you have patience and wait some time more like me . -
Welcome to the forums!
A lot of what you're asking for is already in the features list, and even has been for some time.
Mouse gestures = Settings > Mouse
Keyboard shortcuts = Settings > Keyboard
Tab stacking = 1) Drag tabs on top of each other 2) ctrl + click to select tabs, right click, select "Group Tabs to Stack" 3) Right click on tabs from the same website, select "Group Similar Tabs to Stack"Mouse gestures isn't very fleshed out yet, and changing how the browser behaves is not currently very easily accomplished. The mail client will come in a future release, eventually.

If you can't find any of these settings, my instinct is that your installation of Vivaldi is outdated. Try downloading the most recent snapshot from the devs' blog.

RE: Configuration
This has been discussed many, many times on the forums - mostly in the form of modifying the UI. Vivaldi is built with JS, CSS, and HTML. So if you know these languages, you can make Vivaldi look and behave in most anyway you want.
Here are some reference links to threads about customizing Vivaldi:

There are probably more threads about configuring Vivaldi around the forums. Keep an eye on the 'All Platforums' subforum as that seems to be where most tips are posted.

Welcome to the forum! There's an old saying in software development: it'll be released "when it's ready". From what I've read thus far, before the browser ever emerges as a full release, it will appear as a 'beta' version. A beta version is generally considered feature-frozen, with only stability improvements made thereafter to it. How far down the pre-beta, feature-inclusion path Vivaldi chooses to go before selecting a version and moving it to beta, they haven't said. There may be a trade-off point between feature addition and their desire to push-to-release, but we on the outside simply don't know where that is or if such a point even exists short of a full, eMail-inclusive version.
In the meanwhile, patience remains the watchword. I'm using the Vivaldi browser about 95% of the time now, but my personal policy remains not to use a non-released browser as my "default" - so Firefox remains my default browser, but it's otherwise used only occasionally.

@RRR13:
@Blackbird: I sure hope they don't enter beta with the current crappy tab stacking.
Since I don't use tab stacking, I won't comment on its quality (or lack thereof) in Vivaldi… though I do realize there are some who don't like it currently. I can only guess, but I suspect it's the reported rough edges in various places, however, that supply some of the reasons Vivaldi hasn't pressed on to a beta version yet. Unless, of course, their strategy is to add some other major features currently in development beforehand. Only time will tell...

In my opinion, Vivaldi is on a very good way, but for now (with the snapshot from yesterday) it isn't really ready for a final-release. There are many features with bugs und some missing features. But this is not a (negative) critic, It's only the actual situation. The Vivaldi-devs deliver really good work and Vivaldi is much closer to the old Opera, then the new Opera.
But I'm missing a really important feature for my work-flow and I hope, It's coming in the first final release: https://vivaldi.net/en-US/forum/all/4406-always-open-a-new-tab-from-adress-and-searchbar
I hate it (and I know, there are other users, with the same "problem"), if I searching something or open a new website (from search- or adressbar) to overwrite my existing tab. It's really bad, because I prefer it to open always a new tab (from adress-/searchbar).
On the old Opera (12) there was an option, to enable or disable this feature (with or without shortcuts, for opening a new tab from adress-/seachbar) and for Firefox there are a few extensions for this feature.
If this feature is coming, I will say goodbye to Firefox!!!
