Block reCaptcha?

Is there a way to block reCaptcha permanently from appearing on all sites?
-
@PrivacyMatters Of course. Install µblock Origin. Block the 3rd party
google.com
domain from all sites. No more recaptcha. But I’d like to ask you, what is the point? The recaptcha is used as gateway, you will never get to the content behind it, if you block it and therefore don’t solve it. On the other hand, shouldn’t you be interested in accessing the content, why block the recaptcha? It doesn’t do anything when left alone. -
Your circular post makes no sense. I don't need to be forced to play a video game to log in to this forum or any other.
-
@PrivacyMatters I think what @luetage means is there are two circumstances, neither of which can be solved by "blocking" a captcha:
- You want to use a service "protected" by captcha, in which case the only choice is to solve the captcha
- You don't want to use the services, in which case you don't need to block the captcha
Unfortunately due to how the web has evolved, we are now in a position where a lot of the time webmasters have decided to add captchas, and there is nothing us regular users can do except complain.
Some sites will let you get around it. I can think of one that doesn't use captchas at login time if you enable 2FA for your account.
Some sites will also serve you more captchas if you use a VPN associated with spammers. This forum is protected by cloudflare, which I believe employs this technology. Switching or disabling VPN server may help in this case.

That's not an answer as to why it appears HERE.
I'm changing banks because one chooses to display the picture puzzle spam.

You’d have to ask first. Also, I have never seen it in any Vivaldi services.

It displayed before I could log in to this forum. Had it not, this thread would not exist.

Why do they use a captcha?
If I were to make a guess, I'd say to avoid spam. And Vivaldi has seen a fair share of spam even with reCaptcha, so I imagine the forum would be completely overrun if no captcha was used.If you get the picture puzzle a lot, then you have probably either blocked cookies from Google or blocked all third party cookies. I've done that, so I get the puzzle for every single reCaptcha I encounter.
Why do they use Google reCaptcha?
As far as I know, reCaptcha is currently the best and least intrusive captcha implementation out there (unless you block cookies, of course). Thus it makes sense that it is used. However, it is a bit confusing that Vivaldi does choose to use it since it is probably the least privacy-friendly captcha solution that exists, considering that it reads your mouse movement, clicks, system information, browser information, etc. in order to try to determine whether or not you are a human. -
@PrivacyMatters , I use this one, it don't block re-captchas, but solve them with a single click.

That's what Moderators are for.

You betcha I block G's spyware.

Which is why it should be outlawed.

No, it's not.
I'm an admin on another forum. In spite of having a captcha (not reCaptcha), our spam filters still block probably over 100 spam bots a day. During certain time periods (e.,g. usually early to mid-november) there are serious floods, where we've had so many spam bots come in that upwards of 100 bots managed to bypass both the captcha, StopForumSpam filters and our other filters per day.
Without anti-spam measures, the moderators would do nothing but ban spam bots all day. And while removing spam is part of a moderator's duties, it is only a small part.
As for the rest of your post, yeah, Google reCaptcha really needs to be dethroned by a more privacy-aware and not too intrusive approach. Captchas do still need to exist, though.
-
@Komposten It’s even worse, moderators can’t ban therefore administrators as in actual Vivaldi employees would have to do this, which is a big waste of time and money.
@PrivacyMatters You don’t want to block recaptcha, you want sites to stop deploying it. You should have made this clear in your first post.

Oh... Yeah, that'd be terrible.

I don't care what sites do. I don't want to see it or be challenged by it. Whether it's a way to block it from appearing that doesn't prevent logging in to the site, or an auto-complete or something else ....
Somebody said they don't see it here on Vivaldi, yet I do. Why? What triggers it?
Somebody mentioned it sniffing IPs and that maybe a VPN or different way of hitting the sites in question might help. Or blocking or not blocking certain cookies.
I need a way to make sure I never see it again regardless of what sites do.
-
@PrivacyMatters If a website uses reCaptcha as a part of their login procedure, then you'll have to do it or use an auto-solver if you want to access that website. Just blocking reCaptcha will result in you blocking yourself from accessing the site. If you use an auto-solver it will still capture all the usual data from your computer and send that to Google.
So you're kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place here. You have to choose between not accessing the site, or giving your data to Google.
Regarding Vivaldi.net, I just tested in a private window and didn't actually get the reCaptcha here. Not sure if it is because my IP is whitelisted, or if it is random, or what.

If you block reCaptcha from any site, you cannot use them. This is what is designed for, to prevent spammers.

If you saw reCaptcha on this website, which is impossible unless Vivaldi is using Cloudflare to prevent DDoS.

These discussions are not part of the browser. If you want outlaw something, talk to your politicians.
You opened this thread in the wrong forum, this subforum is for Vivaldi Browser for Windows.

I opened it here because it appears when I use the Vivaldi Browser for Windows when logging into this Vivaldi forum.
-
There is no captcha when logging into these forums. If you do get it, there is something wrong on your end.
-
@PrivacyMatters Open a ticket with Vivaldi Support, maybe they can disable recaptcha for your IP, or give you other useful advice. We don’t know in which specific cases it is being deployed, therefore it’s hard to tell how to prevent it. Personally I have never seen it on a Vivaldi domain either.

Hi,
If related to access V Forums:
- Do you use any VPN?
- Try on a New/Clean Profile
- If still, try changing your DNSs.
--
If related to other sites:
- I've seen some uBlock list auto solving the ReCaptcha for some site.
It Marks them as solved, no image selection needed.
