How to get Vivaldi to use a different .config sub-directory
-
3.1.1929.3 (Official Build) (64-bit) for Fedora Linux
I current start a 2nd Opera browser with the -pd (shortform) option. I have the peter.sh/experiments/chromium-command-line-switches/#user-data-dir page open and wonder if that is the option that I need to use for Vivaldi.

Huh? Wrong forum?
-
Not the wrong forum. Read the subject title. I mention Opera as the example as to how I do it with it, but want to know how to do it with Vivaldi.
-
--user-data-dir
is the correct one (I guess it requires absolute path). -
Thanks for the confirmation. Absolute path is what I'll use.

Not the correct one. When I tried to start with
vivaldi-snapshot --user-data-dir /home/brown/.config/vivaldi-snapshot-2 &
, A small dialog pops up, which gets covered by the browser and then the browser shows that it is trying to open the path as a file. It then segment faults and crashes.Now what?

How do I remove the RESOLVED tag when it really isn't resolved?
-
@MrVideo Chromium requires
=
, like this:vivaldi-snapshot --user-data-dir=/home/brown/.config/vivaldi-snapshot-2 &
-
@Gwen-Dragon I tried using:
vivaldi-snapshot --profile-directory "/home/brown/.config/vivaldi-snapshot-2" &
and it still tried to work with the vivaldi-snapshot directory. It would not work with the new one. -
@MrVideo And the directory is there (mod 700) and empty.
-
@Gwen-Dragon In my case, since I'm using the snapshot, it will be vivaldi-snapshot. What you are suggesting will create a new profile within vivaldi-snapshot. That means all of the other directories and files with vivaldi-snapshot will be shared by two running vivaldi programs. Is that good? Any conflicts? To get around conflicts, how does one tell the vivaldi-snapshot program to use ~/.config/vivaldi-snapshot-2?

I think it’ll just tell the older instance of Vivaldi to open that profile.

Have you not seen my reply?

I somehow managed to miss it, even when I glanced over it. I see now that it needed an equal character. It has now started. I guess I need to go to bed and rest these tired eyes.
Thanks to all who responded.

You appear to be omitting the = in the command line.
-
@camelrider Yep. I noted that is the response... sortof. That part of the text got inserted in the quoted portion. I've now edited the post and fixed it. There needed to be a silly blank line after the quoted text.
